Looks good so far, pity Disney+ will have the monopoly on it...

I'm very much a "hope for the best, plan for the worst" kind of guy.

I really hope this breaks out of the ridiculous spiral that SWs seems to be crashing into. My cynical side says not yet, as there hasn't been enough fan outrage berating them.

I'd love to be wrong.

Looks good and like it might have a slightly higher production level. I hear Vader's breathing at the end. I'm likely one of the few who doesn't want a Kenobi vs. Vader fight in this. I feel that would take away something from their meeting in the original story. Regardless, fingers crossed.
If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that they will fight. I agree with you that I would be better if they didn't.

I agree with you 1000%

Honestly, season 1 was so terrible, for me personally, there is literally nothing season 2 can do that will matter for good or ill.
I almost fully agree. In my case there was literally only one thing they could do, and they did it. Not saying it will be good, but they played the one single trump card at their disposal. Since you checked out the meme, you know what that trump card is. I don't want to mention it here incase someone wants to watch the season completely unspoiled (and they have managed to avoid promotional material).

After Discovery, my expectations were low, so I found Picard to be not too bad. There were problems, but all in all, it was fun to watch. It's like the newest suicide squad movie, people liked it, because no expectations. It wasn't good, but it was better than.

I was waiting for this throughout the first season, so I am looking forward to seeing how this goes.

Elnor, Raffi, and Rios were all interesting characters, and I think this would have been better if they just played with those characters without the TNG cast. Just my opinion.

After the disaster that was Discovery, Picard almost seems like a masterpiece. That is a pretty low bar though. One of my issues with Picard is that it doesn't feel like Star Trek. Star Trek felt like something to aspire to, something that humanity could one day achieve. The Picard show feels like modern day with advanced tech. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I grew up in the time of TNG, DS9 and Voyager. They are my measuring stick.

Interesting, I'm the exact opposite. I really only cared about the legacy characters from TNG & Voyager.

Aye, it definitely feels different from the Star Treks of old, it felt more like trying to set up a LOTR style fantasy in space. Elnor being basically your Legolas expy.

I think that's why I would have liked the show to be set in universe, just away from the main Star Trek and the TNG/DS9/VOY crews. Its own little sideshow outside of the Federation.

All that being said, If I want good Trek, I will watch the Orville.

I agree with you both here, for two reasons:
  • Currently the Episode III and IV fights flow very nicely together. You can see that in the Episode III fight Obi-Wan uses his greater experience and wisdom to ultimately beat Anakin, depicting the latter to still be 'the learner', before in IV we see that Obi-Wan's Lightsaber skills have faded while Vader's have remained strong, proving him to 'now be the master'. Any fight between the two in this risks interfering with that continuity.
  • If there is a fight between them, then it'll have to have a similar conclusion to the III fight in order for the above continuity between III and IV to be maintained (perhaps it may not need to be so disastrous for Anakin this time round compared to the III fight, but it'll still have to show Obi-Wan to be the superior duellist), meaning the conclusion will already have been determined and it'll be pretty much pointless.
I honestly wish they had saved the final duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul to be the climax for this series instead. It would have made so much more sense, and would have borne far greater emotional weight, for such an important scene in Obi-Wan's story to be the finale of his personal series rather than it being bolted onto the end of an animated series about a bunch of kids and their pet Droid and alien.

It's like if the final duel between Harry Potter and Voldemort had been postponed to a separate series about a new generation of wizards and witches arriving at Hogwarts long after Harry Potter left Hogwarts - the impact and importance of the duel would have been vastly reduced, as it would contribute less to that overall storyline than it did to the Harry Potter films.

Please elaborate. I'd like to hear more...

Seriousness is only part of the reason why I don't like Q episodes.

Star Trek is about exploring new things. Q was a good idea that they rehashed it too many times in my opinion.

Also, Q is an excuse for lazy writing because you can do wild "What if we did _______" without thinking to hard to set up ______.

You know... the Kenobi vs. Maul final duel in this show would have been a good (probably better) option. Unfortunately, as I've gotten older, I realize sometimes you just have to strike while the iron is hot. Who knew this show would happen back in the Rebels cartoon days? I guess we'll see how Kenobi plays out.

I'm not as informed on all Star Wars lore, but I still find it odd that Sith or "bad guy Force users" suddenly pop out of the woodwork to hunt Jedi characters in the time between PT and OT. Maybe these were Sith in hiding before the Empire or maybe traitor Jedi, but to me it just feels "convenient" to give Jedi in hiding some competitive threat.

In my opinion, the Rule of Two was one of the most foolish lore contributions from the PT.

Now between the ages 13 and 16, my social life was based around playing the Star Wars RPG from West End games. The prequels had not come out yet but there was a lot of EU novels.

Anyway, we didn't know about Order 66 but we knew that "Darth Vader helped the emperor destroy the Jedi," but they didn't say "Palpatine and Darth Vader were the only two Sith destroying Jedi."

We had a lot of people wanting to play Jedi that escaped the Empire's purge. We needed these rogue Jedi to constantly be in danger but it would be blatantly unfair to send Darth Vader at them so we made up a bunch of lesser Force wielding servants of the Emperor. This let players play Jedi PCs who could fight challenging opponents and not be curb stomped by Vader.

In fact, I ran a very long personal game for a Defel Jedi who was apprenticing to one of the last surviving Jedi Masters, and I decided "better kill off his mentor" I gave Darth Vader an apprentice for him to fight.

The Defel Jedi, fled instead of even making a token effort to help his master so he didn't get to fight him. But Vader's apprentice was pissed that he lost his opportunity to take a Jedi out one-on-one and pursued him relentlessly and eventually caught up with them and a grand climatic fight was had.

West End's d6 RPG system is a little weird, especially with ship-to-ship combat where dice shenanigans can let David beat Goliath on a regular basis. In another game, a friend want to play an ex-servant of Palpatine who joined the Rebels BUT kept the Dark Side.

To make a long story short....he shot down Darth Vader's starfighter with a lucky torpedo (there was an ejection system so Vader himself was unscathed). He didn't know he was fighting Vader, he thought he was fighting some Force using servant of the emperor that was a good pilot. Also he was a Mandalorian because we power gamed like that.

Scheduling conflicts ended that game early. But said PC would have probably have to keep a lower profile because Vader was not likely to let that go.

We had a running gag that he was going to pick the best hiding place...right behind the Palpatine. Not saying or doing anything, just shadowing his movements. No one having an audience with the emperor would dare to ask "My emperor, why is there a Mandalorian silently behind you?" because they would assume he is supposed to be there and people who asked the emperor dumb questions were likely to be killed.
