Everyone at Lucas Film is trying to cling to Baby Yoda to get to the metaphorical life boats as Disney lays off employees.

I'm waiting to see CBS fire Alex Kurtzman and his cronies. They spent a lot of money on Star Trek recently for lackluster results but they keep doubling down on Kurtzman's style of trek.

I believe they are embodying the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Star Trek Discovery has no scenes like this. Part of the optimistic tone of classic Star Trek is how they resolve conflicts.

STD has swearing, name calling, and the first episode has an attempted mutiny in it.

There is definitely an extremely large disparity between the best of Star Trek (TNG) and the very worst of Star Trek (STD).

Part of what I always loved about TNG is the crew operating as a team and the discipline. Even in battle. Probably pretty unreal, but I really liked it.

This is what rolling a natural 20 on a diplomacy roll looks like...(or for d10 systems, five successes)

This is how you create a good and memorable show. Or a good and memorable movie.

THE SCRIPT COMES FIRST.

I wouldn't say TNG is the very best, personally I feel DS9 was better overall. TNG has the best captain, but sometimes it was marred by silly parts of the plot like Wesley saving the day or Dr. Crusher having an emotional crisis.

I agree the script is important, but I would also say the overall story is just as important, if not more, otherwise you end up with silly, dull or unrealistic things happening. Take a look at The Farce Awakens, for instance - I still think that it is the main cause of the Sequel Trilogy's failure, because it was a samey, dull set-up film that rode on the Original Trilogy's success. I'm thinking Rian Johnson messed with it in Last Jedi purely because he wanted to make something new and different out of something that he knew was samey and dull, which of course created controversy and led to the trilogy becoming disjointed. If J.J. had created a whole new story with loads of brand new concepts and characters, and moved away from the Original Trilogy as he should have done, I don't think Rian would have tried to mess it up. Rian's had success with films like 'Knives Out', so there must have been something really wrong with Episode VII for him to want to change so much of the overarching story in Last Jedi.

I think TNG and TOS are typically the most highly regarded.

I feel TNG is the best by a long shot! You're right that it does have a few "off" episodes, but it also has more truly memorable ones. I feel that DS9, while good, has less truly memorable or standout episodes.

Plus, TNG gave us the Borg and Q. It's also pretty tough to beat Picard and Data.
