To be honest I find both to be hit-and-miss.

Disney Canon has great elements like Rogue One and Guardians of the Whills, but also terrible ones like Episodes VII and VIII.

By the same rate what I know of the Expanded Universe also has its own good and bad stuff. The Yuuzhan Vong saga looks great as does the Emperor's attempts to possess clones as a Sith spirit, but stuff like Kyle Katarn and the Sun Crusher are either more boring rehashes or just too ridiculous to make any sense.

Agree, there is incredibly bad stuff in the EU as well.
I disagree with the specifics though, Kyle Katarn is one of my favourite EU characters for example. :D

No doubt that the EU has some successes and some failures. However, the Bane trilogy and Thrawn trilogy are better than anything Disney has produced. And I'll take the Sun Crusher over Rose Tico and L3 any day.

I have yet to read any of the Yuuzhan Vong saga.

That's fine if you like him, but to me he comes across as very samey, pretty much a Luke remake but with a bit more of a secret agent personality. In essence he seems like a character that would fit very well into the Disney Sequel Trilogy :p

Even though I've never read the Bane saga, I do have Titan Books' in-universe volume Book of Sith which includes some of Darth Bane's own scriptures about the development of the Rule of Two, and his story does look very good and fits very nicely with Episodes I-III. Thrawn on the other hand I'm sceptical about (if he's so good, why didn't he come in and wreck the Rebels at Yavin and Endor? Where was he at the time? Also his presence would break the established canon of the Empire hating all aliens with a passion). Taking the Sun Crusher over Rose is probably a good move though ;)

I can’t say anything about the EU, but in the current continuity it is all explained very well if you read the books and watch Rebels

Also a little known thing:
The last line in ROTS is spoken by C3PO.
The first line in ANH is by C3PO, too.

It was probably meant to symbolize continuity.
...Rogue One kinda ruins that. But then it is a spinoff movie so that's OK I guess. :D
