7th Ed. Spirit of Forge vs Steam Tank ?

If I cast spirit of the Forge on Steam Tank, how many wound that spell produce ? 2d6 S7 NoAS or 1 S7 NoAS

Spell says "2d6 Model in unit"
 
yes.... but its wierd. RAW says models, the intent is hits, fluff means models. basically rule of burning iron affects 1 model and spirit of the forge affects >1 model. so yeah, it would only cause 1 hit on a stank the way i read it
 
You are both wrong, it takes 2D6 hits, but according to the wording in the original book it did indeed look like it could only hit one model. This would also mean it cant score more hits than there are models in the unit.

Thank god it got fixed in the official FAQ:

"Page 113. In the ‘Spirit of the Forge’ spell, the last
sentence will be changed in reprints to the following:
‘The effects of this spell are exactly the same as the
Rule of Burning Iron described above, except the unit
takes 2D6 hits distributed like shooting.’"

This conversation is in vain as you cannot target the steam tank with any spell that does not have a given strength. At least, that is what i had been informed.

Well while that is correct, spirit of the forge HAS a given strenght. It has a strenght value which depends on the enemy armor. Spells that doesnt have a given strenght are spells like the Death spell Steal Soul (target looses 1 wound, you gain 1 wound) or the Nurgle spell Magnificent Buboes (enemy model takes a wound). It is only immune to spells that damages the tank without using a Strenght value, which Spirit of the Forge does.

Off-topic:
Couldn't you still cast Steal Soul on the Stank regardless of whether it damages it in order to utilise the wound gained regardless? The FAQ states that even if the attack is saved via regen or ward save you still gain a wound, so I assume that you'll gain a wound just because the spell goes off...

Hmm, I dont know. The tank doesnt exactly save the wound, "all other spell effects are ignored". The spell however just says you gain a wound and someone takes a wound, there isnt anything that directly connects the damage and healing. If your read it strictly RAW then the damage on the tank would be ignored and you would still get a wound, as while it is intended as a "drain" spell it is in reality a spell devided into a seperate damage part and a seperate healing part.
 
the spells doesn't have a S value so the Stank is immune to it :P
it just says it loses a wound, thus you cant target a Stank

You can target the tank with those spell, it just says the spell effect is ignored. It's not immune to it in any way, it just don't take any damage from it. It says nothing about it being impossible to target it with those spells, it just won't have any effect on the tank itself. You still get healed but the tank is untouched, at least if you read the rules with RAW in mind.
 
thats true, but what would be the point of that? if you target a model that can actually suffer a wound you get the full effect of the spell, with only 6 magic phases i wouln't use a spell to only get half its effect unless the Stank was the only thing left on the board
 
So here is a question...

How does said wizard gain wounds from a pile of metal? Just a thought :D

Yeah it doesnt really makes sense, but then again there are a lot of rules and items that doesnt make sense. T
the only situation where it would be useful is if the stank is the only model within range of the wizard and he really needs to heal himself :P

Very true. The thing to keep in mind is that it's a game and not based on reality at all. To try and insert real life logic is counter productive.
 
actually, it is based on reality a lot. that is mentioned in the BRB and the different FAQ's aswell. not everything makes snense (spells for example) but most things do.
also you could say he sucks the Stank driver for the wounds but he doesn't die beacuse.... he has medication in there and he just pops a pill every time
