Blog Sleepy corner

I went to modellers club today! After being stuck in traffic, I arrived, varnished couple of models, preshaded rhino and while airbrushing it, moisture filter got so overloaded that airbrush basically started spraying rusty water on model (yeah... that is a thing). It took us half hour to fix the issue. But I managed to spray rhino in the end! :)

I am now proud owner of 10 more Hirst Arts molds (13 in total). I found a guy who was willing to sell me his old ones, so I got reasonable price. Kiddo is getting interested in plaster blocks, so I think that in couple of months he'll be helping me make some buildings and ruins. Worst part will be to find a place to store them :)

I made few casts and selected couple of blocks that are gonna be used a lot, like window arches and small supports to make my own molds so I don´t have to cast default molds that many times just because I want to have more windows. I bought new silicon as the one I used all those years ago was not stretchy enough. First mold was partially successful with couple of spots of uncured silicon that I corrected by directly applying catalyst to spot and working it into mush. It hardened all right in the end and I fully blamed my inexperience with said new silicon. Also plaster is kinda porous and silicon held those parts really strongly to a point where corners stuck in mold and I had to use xacto to piece them and remove them, so I needed to find solution to this.

Today, I made two more molds (one again for arches and windows, one for floors). I coated plaster masters with dilluted PVA to redue porousness and I stirred silicon really well with catalyst to prevent uncured spots and went on with a day. Couple of hours later I found out that I have uncured spots yet again... I am starting to blame silicon itself...
Maybe next time I try to mix smaller doses.
Right now, uncured spots are treated with catalyst again and I try to demold masters in the morning.

Also, those 3 molds took 4/5 of silicon package, so I have enough to one half sized mold... I think I´ll use it on roman collumns.

I am stuck at home office for couple of days as my car started acting funny and is currently being repaired. Since I didn't anticipate this, I left paints and everything at the office. So I at least made few casts of various bricks and started laying it around to get the idea for first house I would like to build. Couple calculations and I should have enough material after 6 casts of 6 molds + roof and planks on first floor.

Edit: and chimney, so possibly one more cast for that.

Great to see you working on scenery pieces :)

Grrr, !mrahil

After some more thinking, I decided to go for square house as my first build.
I have building plan for all layers laid out and already started gluing. Everything on photo below is glued.

Bad news is that this is all the bricks I have right now, so now comes big waiting. I have to cast more and then wait few days for them to completely dry out.

Day of majestic hobby break. I had 3 hours today, so I spent 2,5 of them casting and last half hour cleaning. :D
I have enough for about 6-7 more layers.

Next time I cast, I'll need mainly roofing and wooden floor.

I finished neurogaunts (those small buggers that I used for testing of paint scheme. I bought another unit for final display). That was another 11 models. Only 14 more to go.

Modellers club today. This time I was not painting, but casting remaining parts for house. I was getting dangerously low on dental plaster, so last three molds were only roof tiles with technological pauses to get them dry... Plaster run out when I was single cast left! I am not exactly sure what to do now as I am missing 2 inches of roof... :D

Whole family is sick (and I am slowly getting there too), so I am stuck at home. No paints, no models (yeah, I finally brought murder chicken riders to the office just to left them there) and no spare dental plaster.

So I glued everything I could. House now has removable floor, fireplace and one roof wall.

And I have only two miscast bricks left. :D

While selling more of my untouched stuff, I found Power Axe praetor from Age of Darkness box I bought last year. Since I tried to sell him twice and nobody wanted him, I forgot about him. Until yesterday. He went from this
