Hey guys,

ive just started a blog series writing up an extended review of Slann in the lizardman army with the overall goal being:

I would love to see death, light and metal as they are the hottest lores for slann in the current UK tournament scene.

Also maybe some words on double slann?

RE Death/Metal and Light yup will be getting to these over the next few weeks, beasts is next and will be up on my blog this friday with life following on monday and heavens at some point next week!

Double Slann will be covered in the builds blog post when it comes around and mentioned again in tactics, I need to get a few more games in with it, im trying out loads of different combos atm so needs more research before i get there!

Nice work so far, i think you are a little harsh on soul of stone. Speaking from a competitive play viewpoint cupped hands is often banned and your opponent will be stopping throne nearly every time, thats assuming your are running lore of life.
Also dont forget with rumination, rather than increasing the risk of miscast you are actually increasing the risk of losing concentration. By using one die for each spell (+the extra die) you have a 1/3 chance of failing and then being unable to cast anything else.

It isn't 1/3, you only break concentration on snake eyes (Rumination gives you a power die, broken concentration is worked on out "natural dice scores").

Read page 32, broken concentration section.

It states you break concentration if the total natural dice scores is one or two, no matter the casting level or any other sources.
So if you roll your normal die and it comes up a one or two your slann has broken concentration no matter the result on the other die from rumination.
1 or 2 out of six is 1/3.

useing rumination you are adding a "free" power die,

breaking concentration doesn't say "natural scores of the dice from the power pool" it says "natural scores of the dice"

i would argue that you have to look at all the dice rolled, and you have rolled 2 dice in the situation where you use one die from the pool with rumination

and also its balancing since they can cause a miscast they should count to avoiding loss of concentration

interesting question if a wizard is within belcalming cognition and they only rolled 6's would their concentration be broken?

Erm page 5 of the Rulebook FAQ i think agrees with you?

I hope it does, some tourny comp restricts this. Which might be what im remembering.

Its not really balancing it out as slann are extreamly resistant to miscast.

Not sure on the becalming question, good catch! :D

I'd actually say no, since their dice result is a 0, not a 1 or 2 as explictly stated in the rulebook.
edit: wasn't thinking there, a 0 +4 probably won't meet the value.

Regarding curse of anrahier, its a good spell. Its a really good spell if played correctly, eg with open terrain as terrain.
Im glad you included the catch on the rules, as far as i know its played like that with most UK tournies, which makes sense to me. Not filthy, just better than most but the lore of beasts kinda needs it.

yeah i just thought it needed said and then the reader can judge how they feel about the spell and whether it would be acceptable in their gaming group. :)

I like heavens its a bit like light, it indirectly covers the weaknesses of lizardmen combat troops. (low WS and I) Making them harder to hit and hit more often. Spells from light have the same result but in a more direct manner.
 
Your Lore reviews are excellent and gave me some great insight into how to better use my skink priests whilst using the lore of Heavens. So I ask keep making more reviews as thier excellent. In both writing and how informative they are. Lastly, you would be my hero if you did a review on the Lore of Shadow, as that is my favourite Lore. I only just tried Shadow a few weeks back and its my go to lore now, but I still could learn a lot about the lore! Regardless whatever lore you review next would be great, and I will read it for sure! Thank you for taking the time to write these up, and I appreciate your insight as well as the effort you've taken in writing each review! :smug:
 
Thanks buddy! Ive been going through a mentally busy time at work and been on holiday recently so apologies on the lack of updates. Just since you asked shadow will be next! hopefully ill get it up later this week is I can get my internet at home working!
