8th Ed. Slann inspiring presence

Today I had a game at my local GW, and a questuion came into play.

I thought that since a Slann is a large target that he was able to benefit from the 18" inspiring prescence rule. The GW employee that I was playing against said no.

Rule clarification please.

in the FAQ it clarifies and says that the slann is "just barely over the heads of the TG," it isn't a large target anymore

The Slann does not have the large target rule. In fact, the FAQ even removed the "pop-up" large target rule in the magic phase. The GW employee is correct.

Even in 7th, he wasn't a large target. He only 'counted as' a large target, for the purposes of spell line of sight only. Now the rule just got changed to telling you he's allowed to see over your front rank.

1 related question: does the slann really stick out over saurus for true LOS purposes? and that is for 2 situations: 1-does he stick out, if he is in TG? 2-does he stick out, if he is behind a standard saurus unit?
this question actually goes for any models of infantry size (e.g. wizards) mounted on some type of stuff, such as scenery, pile of skulls, some kind of magic flames (I think the elves have such a model), etc...?

He only gets to go in the second rank of TG due to their special rule. If he is attached to a unit of Saurus he goes off to the side (mixed base sizes).

For LoS purposes he is treated as being just a tiny bit taller than the TG so he can see over them to cast. You can cut down his base pole length if people are abusing TLOS rules with it.

yea, I know that, that wasn't the question. the question is about sticking out upwards, over TG (when with them) or saurus (when behind them, not in the same unit)

and what about when he is behind (not in) a unit of saurus? is his LOS and the LOS to him completely blocked by that saurus or not?

He has True Line of Sight, just like every other model. Duck down at table hight and try to "see" as the slann sees.

If you want him to float like he does with the regular model then that is how high he is to target and be targeted. If you want him lower, model his base lower.

Edit: T-LOS means if you can see through saurus, or slightly over them then you can see through or over them. They have to COMPLETELY block sight in order to block it. You don't have to have sight of an entire model, however wings and weapons do not count, any part of the models body is fair game.

in that case it would make sense to seat him down on the ground, as not to present an easy target for shooting. to cast his magic, he doesn't need LOS for almost anything (except magic missiles).

You only put a model off to the side of the unit when the footprints don't mix. A slaan is on a 50mm base and saurus are 25mm, so the slaan will fit.
