8th Ed. Slann as general and BSB, or a 2nd character as the BSB?

I was thinking of which way is the most practical setup.
Using the Slann as both General and BSB (Large Target 18" Ld-bubble) or get a second character and use him as the BSB and just leave the Slann as the General?

Both have their uses obviously, but which one is used with most success?

The Slann unfortunately only counts as a large target for the purpose of casting spells over the temple guard.
So the Slann gives only a 12" bubble.

The only other BSB options is the skink chief and scarvet really. And since they aren't allowed to have any other magic items they end up being pretty vulnerable in CC.

The Slann BSB General in the center of the table Ethereal behind saurus or in the Temple guard is probably the most competively effective way to go.

Hmm, must've missed that completely. Is it in the FAQ?

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty certain that as long as I don't take any magic banners, I can give them other magic items if I like?

You are correct about the magic banner. As long as you do not take a magic banner, you can have your magic weapons.

On another note, Mazdamundi is the only BSB we have that has the Large target 18 inch bubble.

Unless we mount a Skink BSB on a Steg.

Think of it like this: If you Slann is your BSB and (heaven forbid) his unit fleas, he is F'd.
Now, in that, you lose your primary caster, general AND BSB in one fell swoop.
Sure, the unit almost never will run, but if it does....

But if you have it on a seperate model (which I have been known to field my Scar-Vet BSB) it's only a ~160 points max character that goes pop.

Still, food for though.

i like my slann to be bsb since, like krox said, he will almost never run. just my flavor though since my slanns are always tooled up pretty good. and i believe it says something like "a skink chief, scar vet or slann can be given bsb for +x pts. they may not be given magic items but may take equipment as normal. they may take a magic banner. the slann may still take magic items totaling 100 pts. the magic banner doesn't apply to this total" ill check when i get home to be sure.

I used to be hesitant about have the slann as the bsb for the same reasons. If he breatks, he will die! But, I give him the banner of discipline (for the +1 ld) and put him in a unit of TG. LD 10 re-rollable 3d6....He is not going to break. If he is not with TG, I would also give him the crown of command to make him stubborn.

I only used to be to have an "even spread" of LD. As in, have my general (Slann) over in x position, and having my BSB help out at y position. Now I don't really care >_>

And isn't the crown of command kinda overkill? When are TG going to lose!? Or why are they so small that when they do lose they might not be steadfast? D:

Ok, kidding in the last part, but if you take Life (just a presumption) when are they going to lose?

I would not take crown of command unless I do not take TG. As far as TG losing goes...it has happened to me far more often than I would like. However, I usually take Light anyway.

Ah okay, I probably should take the CoC when I go Ghost Slann, but I never do >_>
Oh damn, well, I was talking from 7th (i've never used them in 8th) when I was enjoying a nifty 2+ AS.
I've seen a lot of posts about taking light here, is it really that good? Like, I know it plugs our I1 weakness but still....

If I take a Slann he's always the BSB. With TG and LoLife I've NEVER had my Slann taken down, even when opponents are gunning for him.

Alternatively if I'm running a Saurus army (which I do quite often and enjoy it very much) I inevitably run a Scar Vet BSB with armour of destiny. However I've run a Skink Chief with Ancient and Steg War Spear and made BSB and he performs well.

They may only take a magic banner OR magic items. So if you make them the BSB they can take magic items up to 50 points but then no magic banner and the other way around.

Slaan are specifically exempt from this and can have a magic banner and 100 pts of gear.

That is why we all love our super frogs!!! :D

I was pointing out the comment about Scar vet and skink chief BSB's not allowed magic items by the previous person :)
