Hey lads,
toying with the idea of 80 skinks and 10 kroxigor. i have however a few queries.
1] the unit will be 10 skinks wide with 2 banks of 5 krox. i believe it will be 11 deep but im not sure does each krox count as 1 or 2 ranks in this style of unit.
2] because of the great reach rule and the fact that montsterous infantry has full attacks from the 2nd rank does this mean that my 2 lines of 5 krox will all have full attacks.

thats all really except to say buffed with the right light spell a unit like this would kill any thing i tell you, anything. [ pause for insane laughter]

This is bit of a grey area in the rules, the kroxigor rule "Spawn Kin" states "Kroxigors are always within the second rank, unless too few skinks remain in the front rank (see page 41)" so strictly speaking, Kroxigors can only be in either the second or first rank, never any other rank. I wouldn't haven't a problem with a double stacked Kroxigor rank, but others might!

Regardless: 8 ranks of 10 skinks and 2 ranks of Kroxigors would be 12 ranks deep , as krox counts as two ranks as stated by page 41 of the lizardmen book

However the Horde rule on pg49 of BRB states "warriors in the third rank can make a supporting attack," Page 41 lizardmen book refers to the third rank as being the "back rank of the Krox" therefore the addition rank of kroxigor must be the 4th rank therefore do not get horde attacks.

Also if you think of it this way:
10 skinks wide, 40 skink and 4 Kroxigors
So it is 10 skinks in front rank, 4 Krox and 2 skinks in the second ranks, 2 skinks making up the third rank, and then 10 skinks in the 4th ranks.
The 2 skinks in the third rank get supporting attacks but would you reckon the skinks in the fourth rank, behind the Krox get a supporting attack?
 
I think you could try it in a friendly game and I bet it would smash some faces.
But I agree with Rho (nice writeup btw) your kinda of double dipping on the rules. We gain advantage by them counting as two ranks worth of skinks so to get the extra rank of kroxigors to count as the "third" rank seems illegal.
 
no matter if this works or not (in the rules), there is simply no way to justify a 1000p unit. Any cunning opponent will be able to stall it and kill the rest of your army thus winning.
 
I have been toying with the 50 skinks 5 krox unit. I have ran them against 10 knights, 6 skull crushers and a unit of 18 warriors. This thread cleared up some questions I had about who fights. I was doing it right but skrox unit won every test by the 4th or 5th round of combat.
I'm looking for a different army approach currently. A tournament I go to targets slann with on average 5 to six point comp hit out of a possible 27 points. So I need to rethink my list.
 
So I have been running a unit like this pretty effectively in games. The rules are a bit hazy but at my store we compared them to ogre kingdoms to get it down. I have been running it as 41 skinks and 6 krox. WIth the unit 10 wide and i place a block of 3x2 krox in the "2nd" and "3rd" rows. So 1 row of 10 skinks then 2 rows of krox attacking with 2 rows of 4 and 4 skinks on their sides. The unit comes out to 555 after command. We have taken this as a fair play at my store but I would be interested in hearing more opinions.
 
Correct me if im wrong but in this situation dont kroxs count for 2 ranks? So a second rank of them won't get attacks?
 
Also ALL Kroxigor must be in the Second Row.
(skinks are in the first row)
 
I don't understand how the third row of krox would get to attack. Ogres can do it because their book specifically says they can. Our book does not.

The row of krox counts as two ranks meaning that another row of Krox would count as starting at the 4th rank and not be able to attack. This is how I read and interpret the rules and how I think many people would.

The other interpretation would be that krox can never go anywhere but the 2nd row so the more krox you bring the wider your unit has to be.

I don't see the loophole allowing us to do what is suggested above....
 
thats the point we were making. you can't. Even in horde formation you cant.
