What is the best use for a skink chief? Is he only good for riding on the stegadon? I'm trying to come up with a good way to equip this guy and it never seems to work out. Do any of you guys use the chief, and if so, how?

He can be quite good on a terradon, hunting out lone characters and whatnot. Have you tried him like that?

The reason I asked in the first place is because someone gave me a skink chief model, and I was looking for ideas how to use him on foot.
 
One thing you can do if hes alone on foot is this: Give him javelines and Venom of the fire fly frog (Magic item) this will give 3 shooting attacks, at strenght 4, bs 5, and poision (Duh :P) But with rerolls. Also he gets Poisin on cc attacks aswell. With this you still get 40p of magic items of your choice.
This works quite well for a low price hero.

If you are looking to spend alittle more you can give him Staff of the lost sun. It costs 35p and gives him a short bow with s5 and x3 shots.

Also if you want to gve him cloak of feathers, 25p and let him fly, hunt warmachines and such.
 
The javelin would only give 1 shooting attack, and it may even be at strength 3 not 4. I know thrown weapons used to be strength as user but I think it is just 3 for javelins now, so you could only really kill one guy a turn.

I have been wanting to try a chief for a while now too, but can't find a good use for him. The terradon idea I had considered, but a t3 guy with two wounds and 6+ armour save is not going to last long, unless you give him magic armour, but if you do that he is not very dangerous.
 
He can potentially be a very cheap BSB. Additionally, he can be a somewhat risky but unique BSB on a terradon. Wherever you need the leadership boost, he is there in a flash. As mentioned though, it is risky doing that.

Otherwise.. Use the model as a skink brave maybe.

I wouldnt really pay that, throw him a potion of strength. S7 for a turn :D

50 points for extra impact hits. You always want to get the charge with steggies but with the warspear it's extra important.
 
Yeah, but I thought we were still talking about him on a terradon?

Ha, my mistake then XD. I used a skink chief warspear yesterday against TK. And it was awsome! :D
 
The guy I usually play against likes to run his chaos sorcerer solo, to minimize the repercussions when he explodes. Last time it happened he killed half the warrior block he was in.
What if I gave him cloak of feathers and dagger of sotek to go hunt that guy down?
 
i have been using mine on foot with the dagger of sotek, in a cohort of skinks.

its okay, but i think i could find a better setup.
 
How about Bane Head and Staff of the Lost Sun? That could hide in some skinks for extra protection and still assassinate something.
 
I have vowed to never take the staff of the lost sun again. I have taken it at least a half a dozen times and it is never worth the points. I mean, my regular skink terradon riders do more wounds than my skink chief on the terradon (with the staff).

I am facing Skaven this weekend and I was thinking of using the skavenpelt banner in a horde of skrox. Along with one or two other skink chiefs to keep the bsb alive.
 
im not sure if this is what you asked, but i have found that against massive horde armies such as skaven, goblins, empire, and sometimes even elves and other, a skink chief mounted on an ancient stegadon with staff of the lost sun, and venom of the firefly frog can de quite a deadly combination, shooting on average around 23 poison darts plus 2 more javalins from the other skinks on the steg

try it out is a lot of fun! trust me i have won a couple of games with this usually deadly combination for 370 points which gives you really tough unit to serve as an anvil and give you shooting support!

I only ever really use one on a Terradon with Staff of the Lost Sun and Bane Head. Unlike Arli I've had some luck with mine and killed a number of solo Ogre characters with him (3 S5 shots, with a nice high BS, each doing double wounds on a nominated character can work nicely).

However, he's very hit and miss; If your opponent places all his characters in unit then he's a big waste of points as he doesn't have the sniper special rule.

The war spear is a nice item for 50 points; 2D6+1 impact hits, 6 attacks (chief and steg) and D6 Thunderstomps all at strength 6 on the charge. Can be very nasty.

The only other combo that may be (situatinoally) useful is a blowpipe and Venom of the Firefly Frog. Gives 2 poisoned shots that you can re-roll to Hit (note, even if they hit you can still re-roll as it doesn't state "re-roll failed To Hit rolls" and try and get that poison hit). But again, a bit meh.
 
how about this:
spam skink chiefs (4+) in a unit and put a beast slann behind them. the character buffs from the lore can be cast on all characters, so you could buff your skinks with +3A +3S +3T.
the chiefs are cheap so you can spam them if you don't use a steg mounted skink and the extra T + their good I should give a lot of kills. only problem is theyr WS

also:

Chief with Prianha Blade and Bnae head on a terradon. instead of sniping lone wizards with the staff of the lost sun, this guy can charge a unit and take out that pesky lvl 4 wizard if he doesn;t have a champion nearby or he can slam into war machines and what-not. with 4x wounds against characters i would even thorw him against lords, not to mention that due to his low point cost he is great in low point games (arround 1k i guess)

That is an interesting idea! Sounds fun too.
 
How about the middle chief equipped with...

1 Skink Chief, 115 pts (Hand Weapon; Javelin; Light Armour; Aquatic)
. . 1 Sword of Anti Heroes
. . 1 Enchanted Shield
. . 1 Ironcurse Icon

that would give him a 4+ save and a 5+ ward for the whole unit against war machines,
also the +1S & +1A for every character in contact with him won't hurt either ;)
 
Or just pay a few extra points and take a Scar-vet. The only real reasons to take a Skink Chief over a Scar-vet are the War Spear or a Terradon/High BS (Staff of lost sun). If you're just going on foot, then take a scar-Vet... Tougher, stronger, better save, better Ld, and only a few points more...
