AoS Shadowstrike Starhost

So the other day I tested the Shadowstrike Starhost and was quite amazed as to how effective it was, actually so much that after the test run I've decided to use it in a tournament this weekend.
The main damage dealer was my unit of 3 Ripperdactyl Riders, as they just showed up on the field using 3'' away from the enemy Unit that I had placed the Toad into, it was easy pickings. The Ripperdactyls are just so overpowered on their entering Turn if properly placed, but they are in Fact a bit of a Kamikazee unit :p

So what do you guys think? Have you guys tried out this Starhost yet? if so with what exact set up?
This is what I used:

Shadowstrike Starhost
  • Skink Starpriest
  • 1 Unit Skinks (with Javelins)
  • 1 Unit Chameleon Skinks
  • 1 Unit Ripperdactyl Riders
Units that didn't belong to the Starhost
  • Slann Starmaster
  • 1 Unit Saurus Guard
  • 1 Unit Kroxigor
for the Tournament I'm also taking a Skink Starseer :)
 
I normally take it alongside the eternal starhost with an engine, a bastiladon, old blood on carno, and lord kroak. Sometimes the best defense is an opponent who is scared stupid of a small little toad marker! But I use two units of chameleons instead.
 
There are countermeasure to them, but yeah, Rippers are a strong unit, and the toad is a nice psychological weapon

I bring 2 units of chama skinks. And often a third, not included in the starhost. ;)
 
You need monsters, especially if you're using the short-ranged Javelins (I use boltspitters for the range.) If it's a smaller game, then just a Bastiladon would do you well. You'll need it to tank for your squishy Skinks.

That is assuming that the skinks make up the bulk of your army. Do they?

Can you use a starseer for the Shadowstrike starhost instead of the Skink starpriest? :)
 
Nope. Only a priest or a starpriest qualify for the formation.

Personal convinction.
I find small units easier to place in cover and at max range, 2 units can shoot at the same target even from opposite sides, making them less of a target for retaliation.
And playing with objectives it's easier to control them with a unit while the others shoot

Any warscroll with skink priest as a key word can be used inn this formation. So you can take engion of the gods as this formations skink priest
 
I don’t think it is for the Shadowstrike, but you might be able to for the skink patrol...

Inn the faq it says that you can take skarsnik to meet the requirements of bringing a moonclan warboss because he has the moonclan warbos keyword.
So we should be able to use any warscroll to fill the skink priest requirement as long as that warscroll has skink priest keyword
 
Which would work if skink star priest wasn't mentioned, but it would work for the skink patrol.

You mean when they mentioned that you either use a Skink priest or Skink starpriest?

But isn't the Skink patrol and the Shadowstrike the same?
 
Almost identical, except for that wording.
 
AFAIK no. But in the FAQ it's also said that you can use old version of the same thing, so you're free to use the Skink Patrol, with an EotG as skink priest. ;)
