Tutorial Seraphon Overview (updated to AoS 3.0)

first of all, welcome aboard, and tnx for the contribution! :)

well, that's certainly a thing with some really nice potential… but after all, i don't pretend to have discovered all the possibilities. ;)

TBH, i'm not a fan of skinks with no shield. The difference between save 5+ and save 6+ is not a small one.
Imho skinks without shields become a dsictraction carnifex. Theyre squishy and a potential threat so opponente Will be quite eager to annihilate Them for some easy and impactfull casualities. You probably wont be able to rely on blocks like that to survive long enough to actually do decent damage in most games. But they draw away fire and that in itself may be valuable. Plus if they do get ignored they pack enough of a punch.

Carnifex's are 8 wound tough 7 -1 to be hit by ranged in a game dominated by ranged... not exactly squishy lol

Theres 40 skinks, that's plenty of bodies to make a pretend distractioncarnifax out of.

Anyway the point is more that a block of skinks without shields has a massieve target painted on en as theyre Both easy to kill and a decent threat when left alive. So it van play the same role as a distractioncarnifax

I'm new to AOS (after a long break from Warhammer), but so far what I like about a skink block as distraction is that a lot of the value comes from the skink priest and starpriest. Both of which can buff Stegadons. So if they do put a lot of hurt into that block of skinks (and they should), then you lose the 240 points of value, but turn the priest and starpriest buffs over to your stegadon or kroxigor (depending on the buff) and are still bringing a lot of the hurt that had been allocated toward that skink 'combo'.

lol all I was saying is they aren't squishy. hell you should see the errata/FAQ on old one eye.... he's un-targetable by ranged as long as another carnifex is within 3 inches.

Any thoughts on the new realms rules? It kinda sucks to lose all the old artifacts and also now we *have* to play in a specific realm according to the GHB 2020. Are any of the new artifacts worth picking over what we have in our battletome?
Our relics are all better in my opinion. There were some genuine problem artefacts that are now gone though. So it is a mixed bag. I miss the flavor and variety, but I am not sad to see some of the old auto-picks fade away. I do largely like the new realm rules though. and not having to roll on a table makes it easier to have a more concrete expectation for games played in each realm.

I miss only the aetherquartz brooch, because it made my thunderquake lists work. They are still usable, but became weaker.

Do not know if this was asked.

The Skink Chief states: This model can include 1 skink chief armed with a Meteoric Warspear. If it does, this this model has the Hero keyworkd but any command traits or artefacts of power this model has only affect attacks made by the Skink Chief.

Does this mean that primal warbeast: Add 1 to the Attacks characteristic of the weapons used by this general’s mount.
It does not affect the Stegadon? Just the Skink Chief?

That would be true for any other command trait, but that one specifically affects the mount's attacks.

and how are we ignoring the "any command traits or artefacts of power this model has only affect attacks made by the Skink Chief."

I'm not ignoring it, that works for generic traits / artefacts.
For example, the bonus to damage granted by the stegadon's helm would work only on the skink chief.
But primal warbeast trumps it, it works only on the mount. It simply cannot affect the chief. It has been made with that purpose.

See it this way: they put a limitation on stegadon chief, but if you pick a specific faction and a specific subfaction, then you can have a unique ability that bypasses that limitation.

And yeah, you could garrison it with your slann, and keep the saurus guards not garrisoned, but hidden behind it, to negate LoS to them and grant total safety to your main dude.[/QUOTE]

Can Someone explain why this will give "total safty? ;)

THX!

Probably because the Slann gets the cover bonus versus shooting as well as the garrison bonus to melee defense, a ward save if you're Coalesced or have an Astrolith Bearer nearby, while still passing any wounds that do get through to the Guard on a 2+.

Hiding the Guard means that your opponent can't try and wipe them first. They have to chew through the whole defensive combo to get to the Slann.
