This thread is dedicated to the lists I build and run for tournaments and casual play. Each list will have a limited overview of how they are intended to operate. Comments and discussion are welcome, but the point of this thread was to give me a link tool for other discussions.

All list are Match Play legal for Age of Sigmar 2nd ed Battletome: Seraphon 2020 and the GBH2020 updates.

Here are the links to this thread's previous incarnations for those who are interested:

These list are still in various stages of Theorycraft as I have not had the opportunity to play test most of them.

List Ranking Key:
  • Tournament: Designed with the intent to win tournaments.
  • Competitive: Capable of winning events, but may suffer some key weaknesses vs top list.
  • Semi-Competitive: Meta Dependent. Has major weaknesses vs the top list. But, too capable to be considered casual.
  • Casual: A list made to fit lore, a theme, ect and not made to be game competitive.

What Changed

There were several big shifts in AoS meta as a result of the new Errata/FAQ and the GHB2020. Firstly, Petrefex Elite OBR got a huge nerf. Instead of being +1 to all their save characteristics they now reroll 1's to save. Secondly, DoT saw point cost increases to Horrors and Flammers. And the Guant Summoner can only summon half as many Horrors from their once per game tome. Tossed in the mix of all these changes was the release of the LRL. Their arrival means yet another contestant in the field of spell superiority. And they make bravery characteristics and battleshock all the more important to pass or find immunity to.

Lastly are the point changes. Troglodon is now 220, down from 260, but still over priced. And Salamanders jumped from 80 per set to 110. Our allies also change. Gone are Slyvaneth. In their place there have been massive points decreases to SCE. All the Paladin units and Calvary saw sizable buffs to their cost. This opens up the potential for bringing some interesting combos.

What the Changes Mean to Me
Salamanders are dead to me. Rend -2 is far less needed now that Petrifex Elite aren't sitting at 3+ or better to save. The mortal wounds are still great, and rend -2 is by no means bad, but with the changes it is back to Chameleons or Terradons. Bastiladons also seem like a viable alternative to Salamanders. Krox are still a hidden gem, but limited to melee. We don't have a good straight plug for what they use to provide. They now even more ideal targets for summoning though. Seeing as their CCP did not increase.

DoT is a lot less scary. Horror Spam and Flamer spam all see the loss of either some support or a reduction in unit sizes. The Darkfire Deamon also suffered a point increase. DoT in general is feeling the squeeze, even if they are still a top contender.

Celestial Harmony is now mandatory to counter Lumineth Realmlords. Even Starborne Seraphon armies will need to find room for this spell. And seeing as our Skink wizards are brittle it might be worth bringing it twice.

2000pt Fangs of Sotek: Skinks and Chameleon Skinks

Allegiance: Seraphon

- Constellation: Fangs of Sotek

Leaders:
Lord Kroak
(320)
- General
- Spell: Mystical Unforging

Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140)
- Artefact: Serpent God Dagger
Skink Starpriest (120)
- Spell: Hand of Glory
Skink Starpriest (120)
- Spell: Celestial Harmony
Skink Priest (70)
Skink Priest (70)

Battleline:
10 x Saurus Guard (200)
40 x Skinks (240)
- Boltspitters Celestite Daggers & Star Bucklers
40 x Skinks (240)
- Meteoric Javelins Celestite Daggers & Star Bucklers

Units:
20 x Chameleon Skinks (360)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs:
Balewind Vortex
(40)
Bound Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (70)

Total: 1990 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 0
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 149

This is a pretty straight forward list. Use your Starpriest and Priest to support two separate masses of Skinks. Use the Saurus Guard Balewind Vortex and Saurus Astrolith Bearer to Support Kroak. The Chemeleon Skinks seem like the best replacements for Salamanders at the moment. Still crafting with the new point allocations.

There are two things you will need to focus on when piloting this list. Firstly is managing your CP. This means making sure you have enough to auto run 6 when needed or to inspiring presence. This will have to be balanced with the all important Parting Shot command ability from FoS. Second you will need to keep a close eye on your proximity to friendly heroes. All the CP in the world won't help you if you don't have a qualifying Skink hero to use Parting Shot. As a result this army requires strong positional awareness and the ability to anticipate enemy damage potential.

Lord Kroak (320)
- Spell: Stellar Tempest
Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140)
Skink Starpriest (120)
- Spell: Hand of Glory
Saurus Oldblood (110)
- Greatblade
- Artefact: Godbeast Pendant

Battleline:
5 x Saurus Guard (100)
40 x Saurus Warriors (320)

20 x Saurus Warriors (180)

10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
- Clubs

Battalions:
Sunclaw Starhost
(160)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs:
Balewind Vortex
(40)
Bound Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (70)
Chronomantic Cogs (80)

Total: 1990 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 1
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 111

This Dracothion's Tail list is a lot less about Appear at Command and more about the spell support it offers the Slann Starmaster. The real meat is the Saurus Warriors. Use your smaller units with club to zone and protect the 40x Spear. If they make into combat buffed up they should be able to shred a lot of threats on the table. Enemy shooting armies will be an issue.

This list tries to play on three fronts. It has Kroak and Bound Geminids for Spells. Chameleon Skinks offer deepstrike shooting to target key support and the dreaded Gowthizar Harvesters. While Saurus Warriors backed by a Sunblood w/Scarvet offer some strong combat. It even has chafe units to zone the field or venture off to unattended objectives.

Lots of Kroxigor. This could easily be ported to Draconian's Tail and Cogs fit into it. Keep your Skinks safe behind the Kroxigor to make sure they remain buffed.

Very glass, rather hammer. This list takes a daring and knowledgeable pilot to shine. Drop a set of Terradons to bring some Kroxigor if you want to up the durability of the list.

This list seems CP thirsty, why the extra CCP instead of a free CP per turn with Skink CT?

This list seems CP thirsty, why the extra CCP instead of a free CP per turn with Skink CT?
I debated for a while about having the Saurus AB be the general instead of Kroak to take Grizzled Veteran. The main reason I went for CCP was because I am not expecting the Skinks to need CP after turn 1 & 2... because they will be dead or won't be getting charged. The CCP has been the difference for me between Minor Defeats and Major Victories. Slamanders are prime summon targets now too.

Pretty much I am hoping to have 2 or 3 CP turn one and then not expecting much. Play testing is going to be the determining factor for me I think.

Honestly, I'm sooo happy that Petrefex Elite got nerfed. In my gaming club 3 guys playing OBR and of course it's a Petrefex Elite and every tournament they were huge pain to play against. Now, I hope, things are going to be different.
LizardWizard thx for your lists, they're helping a lot. By the way, I'm glad that you will drop Salamanders and trying to explore other options. If you can, please make something with 2 Bastiladons and Saurus Knights. I was thinking about something fast and hard-hitting
