AoS Seraphon coming to Warhammer Underworlds in Season 4

My initial impression after a quick glance at the models was pretty positive, but after studying them a bit more in detail I'm no longer as enthusiastic about them. I think I might just have been overwhelmed by the fact that these are actual brand new models for us.

The first thing that started to bug me upon closer inspection was the mouth of the Saurus model. I am not a fan of his teeth, and I'm not quite sold on the lips either.

Then there's the general anatomy on all of them. The muscles are so stiff, square, and layered into extremely defined sections, that to me they look more like some sort of exoskeleton. The legs on the Saurus and the hand holding the orb are probably the best examples of this. You could also try comparing the torso of the Saurus on the box art and the model. They look vastly different.

That said, the models themselves are pretty cool. I guess I'm just not a big fan of the sculptors style.

I'll probably grab a box or two when they're out, even though I don't even play Underworlds.

I find it very interesting that several people have already said they will likely pick up the Seraphon Underworlds warband, even though they don't like some (or most) of the models. I'm probably one of those people buying it, and I do like most of the models.

Ha ha. I guess "beggars can be choosers," as the saying goes...

Well I'm probably not.this band has nothing for me

I don't even play Underworlds, but I actually do like most of the models. I'll probably grab them just to have some stand-out Skink Alphas and a cool alternate Starpriest. And when their AoS stats come out, I'll probably use them in some games for fun :)

That's my plan, although one of my friends wants me to play Underworlds with him so ill likely sneak in a game or two.

Its really strange to me that they did an Oldblood instead of a Kroxigor. Both from a Lore perspective (why on earth is an oldblood with a skink scouting force?) and from a game balance perspective. Looking at other underworlds squads brought to AoS, the priest or oldblood or both are going to have to be severely nerfed from their standard versions, or this squad is going to be far and away the most expensive points-wise of the current ones

Nah, no need for that. Just look at the nurgle warband. They have plenty of raw stats and a decent AoE ability on the footsoldiers, while also including a wizard. You could easily fit an oldblood, starpriest & 3 basic skinks in their and still have worse combined stats.

Yeah would have been a great time to introduce Nakai the Wanderer. He has been in so many army books but never had an official model until Total War Warhammer. Kind of like how you have Mollog's Mob you could have Nakai's crew.

Maybe if this is popular and sells well they will release another warband in the future with nakai or any kroxigor really. Or hopefully we'll just get a plastic krox kit by then anyway

Maybe, but I really expected a skink crew and then a possible saurus crew later. Cant see a Krox running with saurus, but then I couldnt see an oldblood running with skinks so who knows lol

yeah, lore wise that really makes no sense.
Plus i would have liked more a kroxi, as we need some new models, while we are less struggling for saurus heroes.

I don't think it's totally against the lore to have saurus and skink mix in a warband, but I agree that a kroixgor would have made sense (and would have been welcomed).

I was even kind of hoping for a skink band running a beast like a salamander or razordon.

Now, after seeing this warband, I think it might have been cool if the models were all unique-looking chameleon skinks (although that's not my favorite sculpt in this set). We could have replaced, or supplemented, that old kit with an Underworlds one. But, I guess that would be silly for GW to "overwrite" an old kit in that way.

Looking to the AoS rules, I can totally see it being a non-element. “The orb lets the priest attempt to dispel once as if he were a wizard” or the like...

Hey guys, I've heard that warbands in Underworlds have their own scrolls for AoS. Do you think we'll get 5 different warscrolls or just one featuring all of them like a Gobbapalooza?

I know the Ironskull's boys have one warscroll, but those are practically just Ardboys...
Are there already similar warbands around with mixed fighters? do we know their warscrolls?

Grrr, Imarhil

My personal theory on why there's an Oldblood in the group would be that they had the models already and then made some rules to fit them, rather than designing and fleshing out the warband on paper first and then having models made to fit that design.

But that's hopefully just me growing old and cynical, and not how it actually happened :p
