LOve both but as i mainly play against these two, i'm looking for opinions on which would be more effective?

My we friend plays large units of gg and dryads and my high elf friend has a thing for swordmasters :rage:

Salamanders.. always salamanders. The only thing Salamanders don't shine against are Monstrous Infantry and even then they are just sub-par.. not even terrible, just not great.

Salamanders the more competitive choice in 99% of all cases. Against MSU-style WE Razordons might be better but if he has large blocks of infantry then Salamanders all the way. Against HE you always want sallies.

Thanks for advice :-)
Is there a trick to their breath fire? as rolling the artilery dice and moving the template seems it will miss a huge amount of your target..

My practice has been to move within 8inch of the target and breath. I think the template is 8 long so even with a 2" roll you hit some good models with that fat end. And at 10 the tail will be 2 inch past the fat end and should score hits too.

So far only time I have seen Razordon effective is against Skrimishing small units and when running them against multi-wound Monstrous Infantry (Ogres, Fiends, KROX, etc.) where doing 1 wound to each model covered by the template really does very little good. 3 Razordons averaging 10 -20 S4 hits is a little more effective against these units.
Salamanders for sure against WE good portion their stuff is flammable.

Does flaming negate they're 5+ward save or it has to be magical to do that?

Reading my friends WE book, only magic attacks negate the +5 forest spirit ward thingy

nope not magic fire,
after runing salamanders last time,
I think I will take razordons against WE in our next match.
I think they will do a lot more damage against MSU style builds.

Oh yeah forgot about the 5+ Ward Save. So I will swap out 1 of my units of Salamanders for a unit of Razordons vs. Woodies next time.

So, for large blocks = sallys, for smaller units = razordons ?

That is one way to look at it. However, in most cases you will come out better with salamanders. I think if you are looking for flank protection alone, the razordon is the way to go. That is because they are made to stand and shoot. If they are charged, they will cause at least a little damage before they get run down. If I were taking razordons for this purpose, I would use the lore of light and make sure there were at least 2 razordons on each flank within 12 inches of my TG. That way, I could cast the light of battle to make them automatically pass the panic check caused by a loss of CC. You could also make them I10 WS 10 with speed of light.

Hope this isn't too confusing.

No, i understand thanks... but as i want a more attacking force, go sallys :-) roast some swordmasters

In my opinion, the only place where sallies really struggle is against multi wound models. Even then, they pull their weight.
