Having taken some advice over on the Tactics tread I've put together a list for the first battle in a campaign against The Herd. Its work mentioning that we're doing a Vanguard game before each battle and using the "hook" for the battle. In Vanguard I'm fielding Basilean (we wanted to use the models) so the inclusion of
a Vanguard Regiment is a campaign requirement.

Paladin Foot Guards Regt x 1 (campaign requirement)

Ancients Regt x 2, Clan Lord x 1, Inspiration of the ancients
Tyrants Horde x 2
Rinosaur Ancients x 2 (one with Haste)
Sky Raider Horde x 1 (with Jar)

Gekko warrior Troop x 2
Gekko huner Troop x2
Lekelidon x 2
-- Charcters --
Mage Priest x 1 (martyrs prayer)
Battle Captain on raptor x 1 (the Stampede disrupter)
Sky Lord x 1 (silver rapier as he's my Shaman hunter)

This leaves me 250 points to play with. So that could be a Primes Horde to extend the battle line, a couple of Lancer troops as flank/rear guards, or some additional characters / items.

3000 points is a very different Beast! I was thinking on 2kish lists. For 3k I would definitely add another Mage-Priest with Shroud and Heal and possibly add the Inspiring Talisman to the other one and mount hin to go along your Ancients on Rhinosaurs.

I would also add at least one more Lekelidon to that or even better 2 more. That way you can drop the Ghekkotah Warriors troops and maybe squeeze in a Horde of Ghekkotah Warriors with Strength and another Skylord with Blade of Beast-Slayer. Double Skylord is a must at 3k to me. One to hunt Characters and the other to hunt big things.

Also have you considered Artakl ? If you want a character hunter there is no better in the game than her, SO GOOD killing individuals. You can go Skylord with Blade of the Beast-Slayer and Artakl instead of double Skylord.

On the Clan Lord that comes with the formation, You want that baby on a Raptor.

The core is SOLID though, don't touch it.
 
Thanks - I've been reworking and had some spare points in the list. I also had a good listen to the Ohiohammer podcast.

so my rewords include
1. Dropping the Gek warriors
2. Popping the clan lord on a raptor plus giving him banner so he can run with the Rinosaurs with Rallying (2)
3. Adding Artakl as the shaman hunter
4. Another priest with a talisman
 
They are my budget Lekelidons - if they work out I may upgrade some something a bit more Gucci.

The remainder are a real mix with some late 80s GW lizard archers as Gekks and similar age Grenadier Dragonmen as sky raiders
