7th Ed. Razordon V Salamander

Witch do people find more effective Razordon or Salamander

Never used the Razordon. I like the Salamander in a group of at least 2 (3 is best) as you should get a hit at least once (not to mention if you can flank a unit). Then the panic check begins.

It really depends on what your fighting. Against armies like Skaven the sallies are pure gold and I've gotten quite a lot of milage against elves too.

Against higher T units they're pretty mediocre, and against ogres they downright suck due to the big bases and multiple wounds (you need to actually kill something to cause panic).

I've used razadons once or twice and they were ok but not impressive.

Well Maedhros beat me to it. They are both good or bad depending on the army you are facing. It all comes down to the armies you are regularly facing(for an all comers list).

They have different uses, though I will add that the way that 8th edition seems to be going with buffing block infantry salamanders will be even better(as well as the no partials).

I guess they both got their pros and cons, but I've to say I prefer sallies.

I'm the same as most everyone else. Sallamanders are really good, and it looks like they'll be even better in 8th. Razordons shouldn't be immediately put to the side though, as I've had some good moments with them, especially if anyone tries charging them.

Sallies definitely get my vote. Razordons are just too unpredictable, and for their points you can do almost as much damage, sometimes more, with just a unit of skink skirmishers blowpiping. Especially to the high toughness low armour folk around.

Im not sure what to choose! Probably Salamanders for functionality but Razordons look so much prettier!

Although I've seen battle report vids on Youtube where they've been quite effective in packs of three.

Also, I'm hearing voices on the wind that Razordons can't move and shoot but in the army it says they can as long as they dont march?

Army book trumps the BRB so yes they can move and shoot. No idea who is saying they can't move and shoot, because if going by the BRB then they would have been able to march and shoot.

Many of the regulars I play against are Undead so for me I like to take Razordons even though I would prefer sallies because my opponents armies are basically all ITP. I generally use them in a defensive roll to protect another unit from getting charged such as a stegadon (esp with EoTG) or Temple Guard. In large games I will likely field a unit of 3 each for an all comers tourny list

i believe in the rule book, since they are treated as skirmishers, both can march and shoot. i personally have had a tremendous amount of fun with sallies, the lack of needing "to hit" rolls has overbalanced the not being able to stand and shoot on avg they will only hit with 4 or so shoots on a SAS anyway

Read my response a bit higher, the Army book always trumps the BRB as stated in the BRB except for army composition. And it specifically states in our army book that razordons may NOT march and shoot.

Sallies can march and shoot yes, but you said BOTH. And both can not march and shoot.

When they don't misfire, Razordons get an average of 5 shots each.

You can get a unit of 11 skink skirmishers for the same cost, who can march and shoot, have the same range, but get 20 poisoned shots with no risk of a misfire. Ok, they're only S3, not S4 but they have poison.

22 S3 poisoned shots with march and shoot, or 5 S4 shots (with a 1/6 chance of a misfire) with standard 6" movement. It's really a no-brainer imo.

EDIT: In their favor, Razors do hit on 4+ (no penalty to moving, long racnge etc). But then so to Javelin skinks, which would still give you twice as many shots...


Salamanders on the other hand...
