8th Ed. Razordon or Salamader

Ok so im building my first warhammer army and im going up against my cousin's brett army in a 500 point game. He is using a trebuch (i think thats what its called) and I want to know should i use razordon, salamander or something else completely.
Any other helpful advice is appreciated

If you plan on killing the trebuchet, use Terradons, they are really great.
 
Terradons are great. I usually do not take them though. I take as many chameleons as I can and deploy them directly in front of the trench bucket. Then advance forward and shoot em up. Baring that, I will try to cast iceshard blizzard to shut down the war machine on a 4+.
 
Ok thanks guys I'll think I'll go with the chameleons because the higher bs
 
I never go anywhere without 2 units of chamelions and with the new march and shoot for skirmishers these guys are warmachine killers. Also in bigger games I take a full 3pack of razors and sallies. Unless something has changed sallies marching and burning is great. It also works perfect against Brets as the -3 hurts their high armor but since it's auto hit and only str.3 they only get 6+ ward.

They have the skirmisher rule. The BRB states that ALL skirmishers can march and shoot.
 
Pg 56 our army book says salamanders may move and fire, not march and as the army book takes precedence over the brb unless it has been faq'd then i would say they can only move and shoot not march, and also i has been faq'd too, to say that the can not march and shoot as i posted earlier.

Oh and apologies for going off topic.

If you want to kill the trebuchet take lots of chameleons.
 
Actualy compare the Razordon rules to the salamander rules, you will notice one big contrast,
razordons rules say you can't march and fire, salamandeers don't have this restriction.

Nice try, but no. What the FAQ actually says is:
Q. Is the Salamander’s shooting attack treated as a Breath Weapon?
(p56)
A. No.

Not word one about marching/moving and shooting, and that is the only FAQ reference to the Salamander. It's only there to keep us from spitting on opponents in close combat ("booo!" I say).

Marching is a type of movement, so you'll have to point out where it says Salamanders can't march and fire (since they do carry the Skirmishers special rule).

Razordons explicitly can't march and shoot.

beside the illustration of the salamander.
"Salamander may move an fire"

There is no mention of marching under the Salamander rules.




Ps. breath weapons are one use per game now, be thankful we don't have this rule.
 
Yes it says they may move and fire, marching is a move, and as skirmishers have the march and shoot rule you can!

The move and shoot rule is coupled with skirmish
 
Easy enough, get the razordon models and use them and paint them like they are salamanders. The key to salamanders is to target horde sized units with armor saves of 4+ (the work against everything else too, just not as effective). You want to position your salamander about 7 inches away from your target. Then, light em up.
 
I find it most effective to shoot diagonally across the unit, tend to get way more roasties.

1 exception to this is against bretts. My friend has just started them up, we were playing a game, in my first turn I shot his generals unit from straight in front, he was in lance formation so I hit all 9, that 2+armour was boiled away and massed casualties were had!

But I actually agree that salamanders are a bit more tricky to use than Razordons.
 
Why would you want the Salamader to be changed to a Breath Weapon? If I'm not mistake, Razordons and Salamanders can 'shoot' multiple times a game. If it becomes a Breath Weapon, now you're stuck with just one shot!
 
What should i use on men at arms skinks to shoot at them then charge?
 
I played against Dark elves today, 2 salamander won the game. I lost nothing...

Every time they shot, they hit. Every time they hit, they fled a unit. The game was a wash


A testament to salamanders and a promise to the dice gods to paint a salamander

Men at arms skinks? What are men at arm skinks?

But seriously, skinks don't charge (except in weird circumstances). Skinks get on the flanks or rear of units and keep on shooting, they probably flee from charges unless in terrain that makes them steadfast, or occasionally if they have jav+sh. Expect to take most of game to reduce rank and file units to ineffectiveness.

Salamanders are the LM shooting unit of choice against ranked units. Skinks are best on small units or monsters, especially high toughness, low armour. They love giants!
