Just for fun, I'm curious to see what lores are most (and least) popular for a solo Slann all comers list. If your not taking WD or Focus of Mystery what is your typical go to lore for your standard/favorite army list?

My choice fluctuates at times between Shadow, Death, Life and Light; but currently my go to lore is Light. Light offers so many solutions to the main weaknesses of Lizardmen. I like Life, but I feel that it truly works best in conjunction with loremaster which we no longer have access to for our standard Slann. Death and Shadow are both also stellar lores.

For this discussion, please consider only regular 8th edition (no End Times).

I agree with you, largely. I go either Light or Life typically. I'm a fan of getting Throne of Vines and then going wild, but Light answers do many problems I see in local games. I play against a lot of high initiative or artillery lists, or in the case of high elves, both. Light it's amazing for that with a flying skink priest.

I notice no Undeath even though it isn't End Times anymore. ;)

I picked Beasts. With a skink priest you can get synthetic Loremaster and arcane configuration makes the casting costs a little more managable. There is really only 1 spell in there (2 for the Slann -- although it is fun on the skink) that I don't want which is more than I can say for most lores. It gets us a nifty war machine equivalent which we stuggle with otherwise (suck it knights!), movement restriction, and great augments. The lore attribute is also always useful since it targets the things we want the lore to deal with (bubble Savage on cowboys or Curse/Amber on knights).

Hahaha... I know, it kind of bugs me that the lore of Undeath gets an errata inclusion in the BRB, while we've been waiting well over a year for a FAQ for our army book. I figured for this discussion it would be more interesting to compare the BRB lores before any of this End Times nonsense polluted the game.

I like Undeath for the novelty of it, but if I want to actually win a tournament, I think Light is more competitive.

Surprised to see Shadow and Death so poorly represented. I figured Light and Life would lead the way, but I didn't think heavens would be ahead of death/shadow.

I've tended to use WD mainly (and am now branching into FoM to try something new), but when I did try a BRB lore, I also went with Light.

However, I'm wondering if anyone has ever given Metal a serious run out?
It helps us deal with high AS stuff (Searing Doom, Plague, Golden Hounds)
It can help us with our low WS combat troops (Enchanted Blades, Transmutation of Lead)
It's got 1 duff spell for us (Glittering Robe)
and it's got 1 horde killer spell, especially good for those BotWD moments (Final Transmutation).

Just intrigued to hear if anyone has been running this lore with much success.

You might know me as the anti-saurus guy. I do not take them, unless I have to (ETC for example). So, in my games, I dont have to worry that much about buffing them, so my preference is Death>Heavens>Beasts. Slann+L2 scrollbearer with the same lore(if the slann is not using death+EOTG

I think death is hard to beat. It's so strong, especially on a slann. In a competitive environment it snipes points so easily, and allows a lizardmen army to play its avoidance game better by grabbing easy points from vulnerable characters/monsters.

but a bad roll on purple sun is game over... for the slann.
(and probably the temple guard as well)

Yup, Death is a pretty top notch lore for just about any army.

Yeah, in that case the Temple Guard are most definitely screwed. But the Slann would be safe because he automatically passes lookout sir rolls inside of his Temple Guard unit.

I find you don't really need purple sun all that often. You can get away with just the character snipes most of the time, which is actually why i like WD so much. So many good direct damage spells.

Doom and Darkness is one the best spells in the Lore of Death. Salamanders love it too!

Yep yep. There are certainly benefits to death other than the signature, i just find it to be by far the most useful spell in the deck.

Regardless the whole lore is sweet, why its my personal choice :cat:

yea I forgot about that, I was thinking about our last army book.

It's nice to know that the Slann at least is protected from Purple Sun and Pit of Shades. Dwellers Below is still pretty scary though!

Light for when you have a lot of sauri, Life is for when you have a lot of monsters. I tend to run more sauri then monsters, so Light. The other lores are just not as competetive, even though i might see a spot for Shadow or Death in certain lists.

Light is also awesome for Kroxigors... WS10 Kroxigors anyone? :D:D:D

No love for the lore of fire, no one has chosen it yet! I never did like that lore. :shifty:

Fire is not bad, it's just very average.

You're right; it isn't a bad lore but at the same time it's nothing special. I also find it a bit boring to use, but that is just personal taste.
