Fun fact:
I once read an article about a real life medieval source that talked about that topic. People who are not used to fighting soldiers wearing heavy armor develop other techniques in fighting.
Certain techniques (like long-drawn slashes with swords) are extremely effective against unarmored enemies, the sword really slicing into the clothes, flesh and so on, creating huge gashes that make the enemy lose blood extremely quickly. Against someone wearing armor (even if it is only chainmail) those suck, and certain weapons specialized for that kind of fighting style become really bad.
The Arakh (which is a two-handed Kopesh basically) the Dothraki use wouldn't be too bad against armor if used properly, but in the choreaography of that fight we see the Dothraki making those long slashing cuts, and those obviously don't do anything agaisnt Jorah's plate armor.
I don't know if it is intended by the choreographer, but I really get the impression that this particular Dothraki has rarely fought anyone wearing heavy armor (mostly other Dothraki or sheep-people probably) and just does it wrong.

EDIT: Also nice to see how Jorah smashes shoulder-first into his opponent. That's absolutely something you can do with plate armor when you get close.
He still was lucky with that last cut. It had potential to really do something (and IIRC it does in the book and perhaps in the show as well. I am not 100% sure but I think I remember that in the book Jorah was injured quite a bit after that fight, his armor basically making the difference between being dead and alive).
He's wearing a combination of plate and mail. If it was full plate damage would be minimal

Huh? I didn't say he is wearing full plate. But he is wearing a good amount of plate pieces in that scene, and as I mentioned above, against cuts even mail is pretty good.

But still: The shape of the Arakh allows to use it almost like an axe, the curved part of the blade can impact a target with a short segment, thus concentrating force on a small point (which is why axes, especially two-handed ones, are actually better against plate armor than swords. Pressure is force divided by area). Fortunately for Jorah the Dothraki doesn't know that. :D

Agreed. Swords are nearly useless against full plate armour. If you don't hit precisely in a gap / articulation, you won't be doing much damage.

Well.....Jorah doesn't wear a helmet, so stabbing to the head would probably work. Problem: Arakhs are really bad for stabbing. :D

Most definitely. The helmet is the first piece of defensive equipment you should wear. Obviously in the case of GoT, you want to see the character's faces, so that is why they rarely wear helmets.

My comment on the ineffectiveness of swords was in relation to full-plate armour including helmets.

Yeah, especially one-handed swords just don't (wait for it....) cut it against plate armor. :D

Half swording would help, but there really are much better anti-armour weapons out there.

Hehe, GoT has some messed up stuff in that regard.
I can't wait to see Jon Snow's face when he discovers that he
screwed his aunt

Its game of thrones so at this point he is probably like whatever but in the show they'll probably reveal his heritage then gloss over the aunt bit

I garuntee an akward look between the pair.

There does seem to be an awful lot of that kind of stuff in the story. I wonder why?

Sex sells.so do bewbz
Sex, over the top cruelty/violence, taboos like incest.
In fact I wonder why they didn't keep the characters' original ages to add that to the list as well.

...probably in the next show then.

Really looking forward to a spin off of Dunk and Egg
