8th Ed. Orc problem

Hello,

I play very many times to a mate of me and he always uses 1 block of 50 orcs, 47 orcs, sometimes big'uns, and 1 bsb, 1 orc boss and 1 shaman.

Every time I get killed by those damn orcs..

What's the best tactic against them?

Take a large block of skinks...just to bunker him down for abit where you can smash into his side with a stegy. razordons are good also just keep shooting him with them the strength is good enough to take out orcs easily enough. ancient steggy is also very handy. giant blowpipes dish out alot of death and hopefully if you get a charge with that and a skink unit so hes not steadfast should do enough damage. and even if he charges you the blow pipes can be used as a stand and shoot reaction....num num

They have the same problem as us, innitiative. So use deatj, shadow or light and your saurus will grind them to dust.

Even though O&G have low Init, it is still higher than our saurus. I play against a similar horde list with a block of savage orc big'uns with 2 x h/wpn and another big block of black orcs. They are all supported by a bit of artillery, mangler squigs, chariots along with two wizards and a tough general. I find that once the supporting troops are taken out by skinks, the main blocks can be cut down to a manageable size rather quickly by sallies. Since orcs are +1 S on the first round of combat, I often throw a really survivable scar vet on a cold one at a block to hold it in place for a couple rounds (keeping within 12" of the Slaan). I then throw the saurus into the battle the next turn, at which point they generally do very well.

I would Burn them down With Salamander, that are supported with shadow Slann. Or Throw in Pit of Shades.
And As long as we are talking about Orcs i have a question, if a unit of Orc charged my unit of lets say Saurus, and In my next turn i Will charge another unit into the Orc unit, and i attack them from the rear or flank, do the orcs that i engaged with the other unit will have Str 4???

standard army of slann with TG, saurus, skinks, chameleons, salamanders and a stegadon should have no real trouble with this. sauruses buffed with something suitable will beat those orcs. buffed TGs will demolish them. you can use skinks to redirect and kill the mangler (just step on it and it dies).

this is more of a tactical problem than a composition problem (unless you play a very wierd army). orcs are cheap, and very dangerous on the first turn. saurus with T6 (or even 8) or regen will soak the damage and dish out some in return. a stegadon in the flank will mop up the rest. soften him with shooting first and make sure to mess with him (redirect, march block and so on) so you fight on your terms. with plenty of skinks/chameleons you should quickly wipe out his fast units giving you control over the battlefield. the rest is just a matter of patience.

Well, Orcs can be a problem if they warmachine spam (so many bolt throwers and doom divers ), but thats not a common build.

Normal Orc armies shouldn't be too much drama. 'Dwellers' will remove entire units, 'Pit' and 'Purple Sun' will wreak havoc as well. As others have pointed out, making your TG tougher, or AOE casting Light spells ('Speed' and 'Timewarp') will let you chew through his cheap infantry blocks quickly. Salamanders are hilariously overpowered, as you'll negate whatever armour he has and Panic is great for getting rid of Goblins (his main source of cheap infantry spam).
