So you made a Troglodon and wondered what to do with the left over spare Saurus bits....
  1. First you think to make an Oldblood and Scar-Veteran also ride the Troglodon but then you realise the Troglodon Spine gets in the way of the Throne seat.
  2. Secondly you think to make an Oldblood AND a Sunblood on foot but for some obscure reason the kit only comes with ONE Saurus body and ONE set of Saurus legs (non mounted! Yes there is a second set of mounted Saurus legs)
  3. Thirdly you realise magnets are awesome and they will help you create a single Saurus Hero model with various weapon options so you can use him both as an Oldblood and a Sunblood!
You are going to need the following:
  • 2mm x 1mm neodymium magnets (Buy from Ebay or any other online shop)
  • drill and 2mm drill bit
  • the usual other hobby stuff; super glue, scalpel, etc...
  • and the plastic bits shown below
Pieces used from the Carnosaur Kit (You can use the alternate heads, chest plates and head top options):

Pieces used from the Saurus Knight kit:

What to do:
  1. Cut out all the Saurus bits.
  2. Cut the at the wrist of the two Saurus weapons from the Saurus Knight Kit (so they are hand and weapon only, like the Saurus weapons in the Carnosaur Kit). Make sure you get the angle of the cut the similar for all five weapons.
  3. Super Glue a magnet to the wrist of each of the five weapons. Make sure you align the magnets in the same polar direction!
  4. Drill a 2mm deep hole into the right forearm starting from the wrist. Make sure you are careful to drill right down the middle. Why 2mm? So two magnets fit snuggly inside!
  5. Super Glue a magnet inside the drilled hole. Make sure you align it correctly so the magnets from the weapons are attracted and not repelled!
  6. Once the Super Glue has dried. Test out your new weapons!

Fantastic tutorial! Really great info.

You can also use a regular saurus body, give it the chest plate, and mounted legs and make your scar-vet on cold one.

This is an awesome tutorial, really well layed out and the diagrams are super handy. Defs stealing this method for anytime I need to remember parts for a conversion from now on

Thanks guys.

You can also use a regular saurus body, give it the chest plate, and mounted legs and make your scar-vet on cold one.

I thought about this also. I think I dumped it in the too hard basket thinking that the regular Saurus Warrior bodies were too small in comparison but perhaps the Saurus Guard bodies are ok. Also that the chest piece and the regular Saurus body needs some shaving to get it to fit.

I might have another look at it as I would love to get some extra use out of those spare heads, arms, weapons, chest, mounted legs... Just need that damned body! Why couldn't they put 2 in there instead of 3 head top options and 3 heads!?

This is amazing. It should be pinpointed so everyone can see it !

But it doenst look like a sunblood: so i agree with oldblood but not with sunblood

I'd add some more bits on shield and paint it white, and that's it. Nobody will confuse sunblood and oldblood on foot this way. Conversion doesn't need to be a copy of original.

I'd probably also cut off the pointy part of the war-pick so it looks more like the blunt weapon the Sunblood carries. The rest can be done with the paint job.

Did someone magnetize the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur and the Scar Veteran to represent both with one Starter Collection. and is it possible to take this even further and also represent the oldblood on ground. Has someone maybe a picture of his magnetized carnosaur with oldblood/scar-veteran?

I am literally magnetizing the throne to the Carno back, and the arms of the lizard to be able to swap between scar vet and old blood right now, I'm waiting for the superglue to dry :D will try to get some decent pics.

I'm only magnetizing the arms for the lizard though, and perhaps the body to the throne (although the throne is removable from the carno so I'm leaning on just gluing the lizard on it). So no walking lizzy planned, I converted one of the warriors for that as per the start collecting optimization guide.

I think i will move this thread into "painting and converting" section, as it fits more there. ;)

(even if the carnosaur kit is no more, but it's still a useful suggestion for the SC box)

For the scar vet / old blood on carnosaur, I ended up only magnetizing the left arm. The spear of the oldblood looks too good compared to the other weapons, and I didn't want to fuss around too much. The left arm has the advantage of having a hollow base both on the body and on the arm, it's easier to make room for a 2x1 mm magnet.

As you can see on the pic I ended up putting 2 magnets in the body as I messed up the positioning on one of the arms and had to come up with a backup plan :D

So also started to magnetize my carnosaur and now want to share some images (Quality of the images is not the best).
First of all a picture of the tools i used:
A cordless screwdriver with a 2mm head to drill, superglue with a pointy nose, 2x1mm neodymium magnets, something to pre-prick the holes before drilling, a sharp knife to cut some stuff away and a pair of tweezers(which wasnt that useful because its magnetic).

And thats basicly how it looks like if i put the parts that i have magnetized so far together:

Another picture how it looks like with the "ground"-legs:

Here you can see the different parts and where i put my magnets in (the body has obviously also 1 magnet at each side for the leg):

I am not 100% satisfied with the result because of these gaps, but overall it it turned out good and the magnets are holding the parts great.

Whats missing is the left arm and i am not sure right now how to magnetize this arm because its hard to find a good position for the magnet.

For the right arm i will probably just glue on the sunstone spear. But if not its not that hard to magnetize the arm and the different weapons.
