Anyone running an Old Blood with The Blade of Realities?

I am playing Beastmen this weekend and playing Orcs and Goblins tomorrow, new Orcs and Goblins and yes he has the giant spider.

The Blade of Realities looks good on paper and figured it would be a good surprise attack to make on the Beastman Gorgon or a block of minotaurs with Doombull and hope to take down the Giant Spider in 1 round of combat.

Thoughts?

you get what you pay for here if you want to spend that much you'll probably make it back imidiately if you off a gorgon or arachnarok, not to mention throwing a real wrench in their plan. this is defniatley a "big thing" killer. The bad news is your fighting 2 armies that like numbers, alot. don't let the oldblood get tangled up in throw away units.

not worth its points. Cant combine w/ doom and darkness and bsb lets you to reroll failed ld tests

id say it is. for EACH hit they have to take a LD test, so if you give him the carni pendant (not sure if its 25 pts?) then that gives you 6 attacks at a decent WS (compared to monsters). even with a bsb, id say the odds are in your favor for them to fail one, especially with a monsters usually poor LD. and, if all else fails, put him on a carni for those d3 wounds :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think nuking a target with the Blade of Realities will activate the Carnosaur Pendant; technically you haven't inflicted any wounds.

passing 4 ld 10 tests with rerolls isnt that hard

Well it is on UNmodified leadership, so you won't be seeing a lot of LD10.
Not sure if they get the rerolls, Illl have to look that one up..?
Definately sure they have to take a LD test for each hit, also is they pass al the test
the hits still roll to wound as normal weapon.

true, but i was talking about ghorgon which has ld 10

Wow realy... didn't know that.

Ps. somewhere around here I posted a chart that had the statistics for the BoR and LD test and number of hits...

regardless, that sword will be scary to have on the field. opponents will generally lose most monsters to it and if not you still get to wound the thing so you might just kill it anyway especially with the carnisaur.

personally i like the cold one, the risk of it being stupid is low and the risk of being cannoned is low.

as per deciding if the sword is worth it you have to look at it 2 ways.

1. the average roll is a 7 and they dont get any bonus for leadership so most monsters will be lower than the average dice roll. and you'll be hitting with probably 4 out of 5 hits as you'll need a 3 against them. That forces them to take 4 LD tests that they are more likely than not to fail, and god forbid they do or their monster blinks from reality. and if they don't you still get to roll for wounds so it's not all lost.

2. Psychology. If I know you have a blade of realities flying towards me am i going to put my monsters, heroes, heavy cav or anthing valuable near you? NO WAY, those thing are out of there, especially expenive aremies like elves or chaos who can't afford the loss. You can let slip the kind of heat your packing and see how they handle it. you can make that giant run the other way saving a turn, ruinng a plan. you might make that cav not charge those saurus in fear of the wild flank charge thats gonna evaoprate 3 knights no problem.

Ghorgons at LD 10 can be a pain to wipe out but really you get 4 cracks at it with the average being 7 still scary odds, can they afford to risk it?

monsters arent that common anymore (due 8th) and we have skinks to counter them

So here is my Old One build that I am using against O&Gs tonight

Blade of Realities
Carnosaur Pendant
Potion of Foolhardiness (+1 A)
Light Armour
Shield
Mounted on a Cold One

The thought is get Old Dude in fast against the Giant Spider (thing has 8 freaking wounds!) and try to punch a whole in his line. I figure swig the potion and get 6 attacks; if I am average 3 hits that means 3 LD tests on an 8 or less for Goblins. Even if he is still there after the 1st round of combat if the OB wounds then he gets Frenzy and gets to keep that extra attack. Think I have a pretty good chance.

The Gorgon is going to be a little more challenging with a LD of 10, I was not aware of that little nugget of info.

Another thought is I have 3 other Lizardmen players in my league division that I am going to have to play and think this would make for a nice defense against an army of Stegs.

Oh here's you mathhammer odds.

Wicked table. Now I can accurately complain to my opponent when I roll triple 6's.

Turn 1 - Spider Dead.

next on the hit parade -

Saturday - Hell Pit Abomination

Sunday - Gorgon

Grats!!

Remember with the abomination to hit it with fire first or it could come back.

Not with Blade of Realities - One failed LD test and the target is picked up off the table, no save of any kind allowed. The victim is sucked through a tear in the very fabric of space and time itself, there is no save for that. :smug:

not-a-one, congrats on the game. that must have put your opponent off.

the wording of BoR allows a-bomb to come back with its special rule.
Abo and ob both have i 4 so i wouldnt try to kill it with oldblood guy

The special rule of the weapon is that is does not cause wounds unless the victim makes all his Leadership tests. The model is just outright slain.
Unless the wording in the Skaven Army Book says something to the effect of "Once the Abomination is Slain..." I would say nope it is dead, pick it up off the table.

I would need to see the exact wording of the Hell Pit Abomination, so if someone has it and can post it that would be awesome.

If I remember correctly it says "After the Abomination is reduced to 0 wounds the owning player rolls a d6..."
1-4 it is Dead (there is no coming back from dead)
5 it turns into a couple of rat swarms
6 it comes back to life with d6 wounds.

Either way I personally will take those odds.

After thought-
Just too stack the odds in my favor I am thinking of putting him in a unit of 10 Cold One Knights, with the a mounted BSB and a Flaming Banner, just in case.
