Those cat things are going to have their teeth trimmed down in my army, no two ways about it. This obsession with monster tusks so oversized and nonsensically placed it would be impossible for the creature to eat
I noticed that too. They're supposed to be saber toothed cats; the tusks make it look more like a hog-cat than a sabretooth. What they have kinda kills the predatory look of the sabretusks.
Before I bought my LM, I built an ogre army. They haven't seen much use; the rules for ogres are just feeble. Hopefully, they address that with the new book.
The 'mammoth'-y lookin things really remind me of the art in D&D books. Not sure if want, really. I've also seen it said that the 'feel' of these models are off; more akin to O&G or Chaos than ogres. The cat-thing riders look straight retarded; they don't really even look like cats (Interesting thing here; they must've grown considerably from the sabretusks in the current book). I mean, I could understand ogre mammoths, but the stonetusks don't really jive too well with the ogre theme they have going; rhinox = fat, sabretusks = muscular, ogres = fat, gorgers / yetis = muscular, stonetusks = big and skinny?, hog-cat things = giant sabre tusks with 4/5s of their mass in the head and shoulders?
While I do like the new scraplauncher model, the cannon makes the one rhinox pulling it look... inadequate.
Also, don't really like the change in the armor asthetic; kinda looks more Chaosy than Ogreish. The old armor was a gut plate, chain, and shields strapped to the body. Maybe it's just the picture, but the armor looks kinda dumpy.
Rules revision wise, I'm hoping for cheaper ogres (they are grossly over priced as is for what they do), improved weapon skill for ironguts, they ability to actually have armor; while ogres have three wounds, they don't have good wound retention; doesn't help that they have crap weapon skill, crap initiative, etc. For an army that is almost devoid of any appreciable magic or ranged, they suck at CC. So, hopefully they redesign the army significantly, otherwise my ogres will end up sitting on the bench for a long while.
Now, rants aside, I do like Ogres, they're my first army, and are considerably more painted than my LM. With some rule adjustments, they can be good. As it is now, an Ogre victory is probably more of a fluke than them being a solid army. With the new models, I think they should've went with a mammoth instead of a 'stonetusk', and kept the Rhinox instead of the new hog cat things for cavalry.
Anyway, will definately have to scope out if the new book is worth getting or not.
