Odd things in warhammer....

This thread is for anything weird you noticed about warhammer rules, fluff, anything at all.

I'll start

1) Ogres can be screened by gnoblars. Gnoblars are supposed to be 2 ft, ogres are supposed to be 10ft. What do they do stand on each others shoulders and make a wall?

2) Goblins are tougher than skinks. Skinks are roughly about 6ft tall if they straitened out, goblins are about 4.

3) Strength score in general. Kroxigors are supposed to be able to lift temple blocks by themselves, S4, saurus have S4, so they should be able to do the same. Yet both vampires and chaos warriors are S5?
 
Those things are usually for game balancing* . Not for logical reasons...
Then dwarves should have T5, 1+ re-rollable armour...
While they to not, at least not the regular troopers!

But yeah, those things are quite odd. Like a look-out-sir check. As if that 'regular' trooper has the following:
1) He noticed a cannon/stone thrower on the battlefield (fairly easy)
2) He noticed that the cannon is pointing is his direction (fairly easy)
3) He notices the shot (fairly easy, if your not deaf...)
4) He notices that the shot will be very dangerous for his commander (ok, achievable)
5) He pushes his commander aside and tries to catch the cannonball/stonethrower....(Nope. Not going to happen. Ever. That thing travels much much too fast for a human-being (and elf, dwarf, lizards [Initiative 1!] and undead) to achieve.
Like the idea though :P

Shall I even mention the outnumber+fear=autobreak? HOw on earth does that make sense?

"Gerrard, you did notice they have 2 more skeletons than we have swordsmen, right?"
"ofcourse I did Steve, ofcourse I did. But did you notice that they are weaving a rather bone-like standard too?"

"Certainly Gerrard. Certainly. You also checked that their ranks are neatly in order?"
"Ofcourse I did Steve, ofcourse I did. You also noticed that they have more ranks than us then, right Steve?"

"Certainly Gerrard. Certainly."

My favorite;

Them: "Ok, so my cannonball lands right on your front rank skink and travels...((dice rolled)) all the way through your four ranks."

Me: ((sigh)) Right, ok so you need anything but ones on four dice...

((four dice are shook in a hand and tossed onto table))

Them: "What the heck?!"

Me: "Huh, it seems that my Skinks' skin and bones are strong enough to stand up to your strength ten cannon shot..."
 
A poorly positioned Lvl 2 Skink Priest on Engine of the Gods is too far forward by 1 inch.

The Chaos Chariot of Khorne chooses not to charge anything.

The Chaos Chariot of Khorne is determined to be in range and must charge the EoTG.

The impact hits knock the priest around like a pinball inside the howdah. 1 wound.

The chaos warriors wiff.

A horse jumps over the moon to reach the priest in the back of the howdah and bits his head off.

The Stegadon finds this horse so scary that it decides to run away.

The chariot somehow manages to drive all over the Stegadon, squishing it to pulp!!
 
1) How about the empire free company?
They are supposed to be newly recruited/drafted peasants that are forced to serve as auxiliary. If you look at their stats however, they seem to be just as well trained as the ordinary state trooper but with worse equipment.
2) Also, how come the entire world seems to be constantly fighting each other. Like I know that some of the gods demand fighting, but like everyone is always beating on each other!
3) The way GW depicts the warhammer world, it seems that everyone is fighting the empire, or the empire is fighting everybody. They by far have the most in depth background and personality that it puts almost any other army to shame. They might as well be like: "you lizards only mattered at the beginning. Now you're stuck in some god-forsaken jungle and left there to watch everybody continue on their merry way." Like come on!

That's all for my rant today.
 
A High Elven levy (ie. not even a soldier, but a potter or artist or something) archer is faster than a 100 year old vampire lord with inhuman speed.

A chariot running through a friendly unit causes damage. A giant/unit of cavalry/stegadon does not. For that matter, the same chariot damaging its own elit troops will break apart on the weakest of opponent models.

Characters on chariots in challenges. Oh what was that? You want a one on one fight? Ok, let me just step off my fast moving chariot away from the defences of the crew and the chariot to say hello.

No one has mentioned the hilarity of the Slann yet either, in regards to his sight as a large target. When there are TG around him, he can float up and see as a large target. Even if there is just 1 TG standing next to him, he is cool, which means the rule definitely doesn't depict the TG lifting him. As soon as that last TG is gone though? 'Oh.... No more floating higher anymore, I think I'll just stay on the ground'
 
This is slightly off topic, but I used to think it was hilarious that, once upon a time, you could snipe a hidden Space Marine Sergeant by their flags. To quote Turn Signals on a Land Raider, "They shot him in the heraldry!"

Cold one: A ferocious predatory creature that can be ridden by brave souls.

Predatory creature, with stupidity? wait, what went wrong with nature there?

High elf infantry. Spearmen in particular.
Elves (though not all of them) train for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Yet NOBODY came to they idea that their 'ordinary' spearmen could use some muscle..? come on...

Building rules in general...

Did I mention the autobreak? Wait, yeah I did :shifty:

Empire engineers, they can shoot their own gun and still help (with re-rolls) the war machines itself.
Dwarven enginners, cannot. OR they shoot their gun. OR they help with the war machine...
what is it that the humans can do so much better?

Why are Kroxigor NOT stupid? They're slow, dumb. And their only strong point, is their strenght! (bad pun, I know..). Sounds like a perfect candidate for stupidity...

Let's not forget that a Skink is as strong as a great big Kroxigor, or Ogre, or Human, or Ork...
 
Actually terror checks are pretty cool too, on the subject of psychology.

Let's continue that story:

"Well soldier, If you would take a closer look at this one right next to us; he has his eyes standing further out eachother than the one approaching. Also, his horns are slightly more battered and two if it's teeth are shattered.
Compare that to the one approaching, who not only appears fresher, but is likely to be younger too. It's much more ferocious too, I can see that now that it comes closer.
Woah, that thing is unstoppable! And quite fast too, look at him going;
... although he's getting quite close now..., Understood soldier?

This reminds me of something I read a while back concerning the line of sight rules.
I believe it went something like this:

"Sir, there are enemies on our left flank, right there! Shouldn't we turn around to face their front?"

"Hold your horses there, son. They're clearly out of our sight, can't you see that?"

"No, sir. They're right there!"

"But they are, we can only see what's right in front of us."

A Skink Priest can wear a magical cloak of feathers to be able to fly around at will. No problem.

A dinosaur that happens to be near a unit of 25 Orcs with a character causes them to flee in terror. While you'd think they could summon up more courage in such great numbers, sure I could see them occasionally losing their shit in the face of a big monster.

Now... the skink priest decides he is going to charge into that fleeing unit. The unit doesn't quite flee far enough and the SKINK PRIEST catches and DESTROYS the entire unit, including the big badass Orc character. That I can't quite make work in my head... I'd think the Orcs would probably laugh at the absurdity of being charged by a 60 pound flying lizard.

Not that I won't abuse said absurdity!
 
This is from my own experience, me playing my first time with a borrowed army of empire playing against a wood elf.

"Sir, more than half of us are gone!" "Let's panic and run back!" They turn 180 and to the left of them is a forest. Out of the forest comes one wood elf and runs in front of them. "Oh no Sir! There is a wood elf... What are we going to do?" "Men it has been great to fight along with all of you but we have lost this fight"
Really bad experience

Edit: Just realized Canegham wrote the same kind of situation... oh well I'll leave mine
