The theme for our 16th seasonal short story contest provided by @Infinity Turtle "It Came From Above"

The Rules

-We would like you to try to keep your story between 500 and 2000 words. I am requiring that entries do not exceed 2400 words. This is counting title, poems, quotes, any add-ons. If I get a submission that exceeds 2400 words, I will trim it till it meets the limit, and you may not like what I choose to cut.
-Your name must appear nowhere with the story. There is no point in having an anonymous competition based on skill if we know whose entry is whose.
-You must send your story via private message to Scalenex before midnight (US Central time) on October 31st.
-The story must be new. No dragging up a story you wrote months or years ago.
-No plagiarism. This means no stealing a story verbatim. You are free to use characters or settings from other works including other writer's fluff pieces and past short story contest entries.
-The story must involve Lizardmen (or Seraphon or Salamanders or Saurian Ancients), at least a little
-The story must stick roughly within the theme, at least a little.
-No comics or illustrations. This is a short story contest. Visuals are limited to fonts and text colors. We have regular contests for visual art. In fact we have one accepting entries right now.
-Only one entry allowed per person.

I will do my best to providing proofreading and general advise to writers who ask for it though real life is full of many challenges for me right now. If you wish me to provide a detailed edit, please try to get your draft to me at least a week before the deadline. You are welcome, nay encouraged, to ask anyone else you wish for help or advice.

Once again, the winner of this contest has the honor of choosing the next contest theme if they so choose. This time because I do not want to be saddled with coming up with a last minute topic. If the winner does not give me a topic, I will pass this burden honor on to the runner-up.

This is a great honor because our next contest will mark five years of unbroken seasonal short story contests.

If you want to talk about the theme or your eagerness to write or read something. Please do so below!

Yay! :D

Is the theme about terradons and ripperdactyls?

It sounds like it could be. But it could be about a wizard who favored the Comet spell. Or some Saurus Squad who got splatted by a Comet spell. Or a Skygalleon that shipwrecked (fell out of the sky) far up the Amaxon. Or a simple Dragon attack even.

Sky is the limit.

an interesting theme, i hope i will be able to have a good idea... it fits excellently also with the main lore of Seraphon.

Sky is the limit.

Indeed.

It could also involve something coming down the chain of command. Or something coming from up north. Or someone attacking an underground lair from the surface. Or Seraphon descending from the sky. Almost anything if something is above something else.

For those relatively new to these contests. A lot of entries touch on the theme very loosely in very abstract ways. For instance, when the theme was "Chameleons," most people wrote about Chameleon Skinks but clever, mighty, and handsome Scalenex wrote about an spy infiltrating the Lizardmen. A sort of abstract chameleon.

Too bad he wrote it at the last minute and threw the pacing off.

Alrighty, thx

Question: How do these contests work?
After submission are the stories posted in the forum?
Do people get to read them and vote for their favourite one?

You submit your story to scalenex via private message

All of the stories sent to him, will then be posted on a separate voting thread where all registered forumites can vote on them.

I just realized - This theme fits perfectly with the fall season, with all of the falling leaves and what not.

(Yeah, it takes me very long to realize obvious things :P)

Okay, so I got two pieces unusually early, then nothing. Everyone is either an early bird or a last mintue type I guess. The two pieces are good but there is something I need....
