I'm new to Warhammer, and lizardmen is my first army. I've played VC and HE in my begining days before lizards. My question is, can slaan be in any other block other than TG? I have plenty of skinks and SW, but no TG. I am slowly building up my army and would really like to play slaan, but dont want to leave him open to attacks, I need some form of protection... Anything will help at this point, thanks folks.

As far as I know he can join any unit just like any other character. The catch is, if there are TG on the field he HAS to join them and he cannot leave. However if he isn't in the temple guard he has to be in the first rank, not the second like with TG, thus leaving him open to attack. You could always try running him solo and throwing some shooting protection on him and hiding him behind units though.

so long you dont play temple gaurds you can put it everywhere you want

Thanks for the answer! I've been playing it for 2 weeks now, can't get enough :) It's the most addictive thing in the world!

If you give him the discipline : Higher state of consciousness, only magic can hurt him and then all you need is Unfathomable presence and his ward would be 2+ against magic. Then you can leave him out of a unit and he would be fine.

A character can join any unit as long as he is not: on a flyer, monster, chariot, swarm, or war machine.

Characters with the same troop type as the unit they join have the additional benefit from a the look out sir ward save (assuming 5+ rank and file models).

Characters, and command groups make up the front ranks of the unit, unless there isn't enough room. then they start filling the second rank. if you are running 5 wide saurus warriors, you can put 2 scar vets/old bloods, the champion, musician, and standard all in the front, and a slann in row 2.
