8th Ed. New Lizardman army book and info

Looking at the Carnosaur and it's kit-brother, I don't think they're intended to quadruped so much as leaning down low... at the level they're need to be to be ripping apart human- or ogre-sized prey. Basically, that's their 'attack' stance - the creatures in question could stand taller, but against most things they're likely to fight in Warhammer, that's probably going to become their natural combat stance.

I am a little concrened about the terradons, though. I'd have preferred the stones to be held in their claws, not hanging from ropes as they appear to be in those pictures. Still beats those demonic grins the last batch had, though.
 
I'm looking forward to this wave very much, I was a bit apprehensive a few days ago but now my fears are mostly put to rest.

I am a bit disappointed in the apparent reduction in the battalion size, unless there is a slight price drop (he says naively lol).

You could take Stegadon's in rare AND special slots to begin with, not alot has changed in the categories we can take large monsters. You could take an Old Blood on a Carnosaur before so assuming a Scar Vet can take a Carnosaur as a mount you're only gaining one area that you get to add a monster.

Furthermore monsters aren't cheap, points wise not talking money. I don't think large monsters are worth it in the current edition of Fantasy. You say don't get them in combat? Then what's the bonus of having a huge monster, to carry around hoodahs? The lack of movment and shooting on the Stegadon made it hard to use. If a cannon hits you it will just pin ball you to death.

These models may be good next edition but right now I don't think they will be.
 
lol. I agree n8. The surest way to put me to sleep is to turn on some Pokemon! First time that I ever fell asleep during a movie (I paid for) was taking my kid (then 5 or 6) to see the first Pokemon movie.

Im pretty sure they are held by claws? 9th photo down, bottom right-hand corner of WD - there's a side profile that appears to show a Terradon with boulder-in-claw.

I wonder, will Scar-vet Carnosaurs be 'lesser' versions? The HEs only have access to the more powerful Star Dragon with Lord choices (I think), so maybe the Oldblood would have a 'mature'/''ancient' Carnosaur?
 
The thought springs to mind that maybe with this rule update, the terradon will get an ability that allows them to drop rocks (or some other attack) multiple times during the game.

I am also concerned about the lack of any obvious references to a Stegadon (EOTG) and chameleons for this update. Not to mention razordons and sallies.

That said, I could be over thinking it.
 
There was a page of stgadons at the back of the article, but it was a realy small pic
and only some fuzzy words on that page.

I imagine we'll hear this once we get to the rulebook; GW will be focusing on selling us all their new shiny stuff so older models will probably take a backseat. Either that or there'll probably a small reference tucked away somewhere in WD.

Do you put terrorgheists in combat? No because you use them to scream, even though thry are big monstrous things. The skink one might have a similar non combat role. Indeed that's what it sounds like with its vomiting thibg. We just don't know until seeing the rules.

Which would be fine if cannons didn't pinball our monsters/riders. They are vulnerable in CC and when targeted at range. The only time they excell is when they are left alone. It's difficult to field enough large monsters and still bring other units to kill things. The game rules need to change because our weakeness has always been that, not our army specific rules, with regards to the Stegadon.

Honestly for me all this means is I wont buy the new monsters this edition. I'll probably grab some Terradons as I really like those and I would like to run a MSU LM army. The only problem is if that play style was nerfed in the army book to encourage people to buy the new models.
 
This is pure conjecture on my part, but look at the armor on that Basti. Surely there is something in the rules for it that will help protect it from cannon/war machine fire.

Correct, in fact the only dragon HEs can get off hero choices is the weakest of them (the Sun Dragons). Worse, the hero dragon option is the Dragon Mage, which means combining a mage that's restricted to the Lore of Fire with a combat monster. As you might imagine, this... isn't exactly the best combination. A lot of HE players would say that the only practical way to use dragons is with a Prince on the biggest dragon you can afford (it's hard to fit a Prince on Star Dragon in a standard game with the current rules).

I could see there being an Ancient Carnosaur or something like that - there's already precedent with the Stegadons, after all. If they go that route, though, I could easily see it be the Oldblood carnosaur that has the current carnosaur stats while the Scar-Vet gets a weaker version. The current carnosaur can take on a Moon Dragon (the mid-tier one) with roughly equal chances - if they just use the current carnosaur stats without splitting, that's the equivalent of putting two dragons on the field (without flying or breath weapons and somewhat weaker defensively, but more powerful offensively, and unlike HE two-dragon lists both carnosaurs will have combat characters on them). If they do split and use the current stats for the Scar-Vet carnosaurs while making the Oldblood carnosaurs even nastier... well, that's going to get messy. :meh:
 
Very pleased about these.

The Carnosaur's head is a little on the small side side but not enough to make me dislike it. The design fits well with how I made mine; I like the way the riders are braced on their mounts rather than the old Kroq Gar just sitting on the thing.
I always thought the models were quite light on feathers, and I like the way they've made them a big part of their design. On that note I also love the paintjobs, very exotic and colourful.
As for the Bastiladon's weapons, anyone could have guessed an Aztec laser cannon but the snake pit is genius. It looks like a re-purposed temple trap, the kind that Indiana Jones might fall into.
I don't like the finecast characters, but that plastic Skink Priest is wonderful.
The Terradon riders seem to have special flaming weapons. Very interesting.
I'm glad they didn't do a new Slann. the current one is my all-time favourite Warhammer model and I can't see anyone beating it with a new design, why fix what isn't broken?

Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to store several huge Carnosaur and Troglodon models...
 
Anyone care to hypothesize what the difference between a skink high priest and skink prophet might me? I mean, I would think the High Priest is a lord level caster, and the prophet is probably a hero level...something? Warrior priest-esk maybe? I mean it can ride the Trogolodon so maybe it has some cobat potential since prophets tend to be associated with Sotek and Sotek is more into..you know..murder and sacrifice. Then again the priest can ride stegadons and they don't fight. Also, one thing that worries me, is on a stegadon the howdah give a 2+ armor save, but the pic of the prophet on the trogolodon just shows him riding it like a big horse, not much protection there...

Thoughts?
 
They may offset the priest by giving him a ward save. I agree that he almost has to be a lord level character. Maybe a hero/lord option in there. At any rate, you will probably be paying around 200 to 250 points for the most basic combo (mount + Priest).
 
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but it looks like the lizzies might get their own lore of magic. Last photo cell shows the magic cards labeled lizardmen battle magic...

Yeah it was mentioned, and I think the Lore Attribute is that you can forget the spell casted and generate a new spell at the end of your turn. Not sure how I feel about this. Seems like it would be good in a tournament scene where you would want to tailor your list per match.
 
That is an interesting dynamic. it will be interesting to see the spell options.

Actually someone on warseer posted that the Troglodon is a rare choice, so it sounds like a ridden monster that doesn't have a character on it. I think we should be able to field a L4, min core and 4-6 monsters at 2k, that's pretty mean.
