8th Ed. Need help 1200 point starter army!

Hello all! First time posting on Lustria.
I am in need of some advice on my list, this is my first warhammer army that i will actualy play with and will eventualy expand to 2400 but i have to start somewhere.
I have a slann but it doesnt fit in a 1200p list sadly, so saving him for when i have my 2400 army.

Anyways, was hoping this would work, i want to include the temple gueard since i already own them, same with the skinks, the rest is not ordered yet.

The reason i want a 1200p list is because of my gaming Group, they play at either 1200 or 2400 Points

I hope i can get some help from you guys!


LIZARDMEN 1200 Point List.

HEROES: 285 points.
1 x Saurus Scar Veteran (General) / Light Armour / Great Weapon / Armour of Silvered Steel / Iron Curse Icon / -Sword of Striking.

1 x Skink Priest (Lore of beasts / Heavens?) / Level 2 / Cube of darkness.


CORE: 435 Points.
24 x Saurus Warriors / Spears / Full command (Skink Priest goes here)
10 x Skink Skirmishers / Javelin & Shields.
10 x Skink Skirmishers / Javelin & Shields.


SPECIAL: 476 Points
19 x Temple guard / Full Command / Revered Champion with Tormentor sword / Standard of Discipline (Scar Veteran goes here)

1 x Bastiladon / Solar Engine


TOTAL POINTS: 1196.

Im not a fan of the skink priest in the saurus, because he has to stand at the front to the side alone (different base), and you want to get the saurus in combat ASAP and then he gets targeted. Maybe 24 saurus is too few for spears too. Rather have the save at this level with the shield.

Isnt light armor on the scar vet redundant if you have armour of silvered steel? Furthermore, now you have 65 points worth of magic items on your scar vet if you count the sword.

Id say Beasts would be better for this list, buffing your units with a minimum of one spell.

I really dont feel the cube of darkness is worth it unless youre playing vs. something specific. Rather take a dispel scroll.

Solid list beyond that. Just my two cents. Perhaps worth looking into the ancient stegadon. It would eat people at this amount of points.

1 x Saurus Scar Veteran (General) / Great weapon / Armour of silvered steel / Luckstone (Or Ancient stegadon helm / Luckstone / Iron curse icon??)

1 x Skink Priest (Lore of beasts) / Level 2 / Dispel scroll (runs solo?)

CORE: 465 Points.
25 x Saurus Warriors / HW&S / Full command.
10 x Skink Skirmishers / Javelin & Shields / Patrol Leader.
10 x Skink Skirmishers / Javelin & Shields / Patrol Leader.

SPECIAL: 476 Points.
19 x Temple guard / Full Command / Revered Champion with Sword of striking / Banner of eternal flame? / Banner of Discipline? (Scar Veteran goes here)

1 x Bastiladon / Solar Enginep

Total 1200points.

Are the temple guard worth it without a Slann?
