Hey guys!
So I know of both the old Warhammer name generator and the one that was linked here. From the looks of them they are mostly random.
The question I have is- are there general guidelines and/or rules for naming lizards? From what I've seen, skinks tend to have sharp, clicky names and saurus tend to have rounded, more gutteral names. Are names made up of actual words or are names a seperate thing? Do kroxigors have names? Do names get longer over time?
Am I overthinking all this?

Finally, how do you go about coming up with names for your lizards both in fiction and on the tabletop?

For my pieces anyway, the general idea that Kroxigor have the shortest names, usually one syllable. Nal and Tay were the only two I named.

Saurus tend to have punchy two syllable names. Kaitar, Locrot, Ralesk, Nurak,

and Skinks tend to have softer two syllable names or sometimes three syllable names. Tayesh, Huan-kai, Belrikt, Zat-kai, Karik, Preylot (Chameleon), Gerlit, Tykornis, Yarshen, Yarthren, Vralic

Slann tend to have more complex names. Desserex, Merestar, Trawlikshen, Laershin,

That's just what I like to do.

Agree with the difference between skink and saurus, punchy versus soft. I might have to consider that going forward.

When looking at canon trends for lizardmen names, another thing to consider is that skinks are more likely to have pun-y names. Tiktaq'to and the like. Though nothing says that saurus can't have pun'y names also. I have a background saurus called "Praeda'tor", though it's usually shortened to Preda.

Also, occasionally using an anagram with a random apostrophe can create a good name, especially if it is a subtle clue to their personality trait. My slann is called Lord Annat'corri. And this marks the first time I've dropped that detail about his name.

Tik'ol'tec - Skink Starseer
Huex-Ty - Skink chief engineer
Ka'rah - Saurus Warrior
Gur-Mah - Saurus Oldblood.

I might take Skalenex's idea to use single sylable Kroxigor names though.

Generally speaking, more complex characters get more longer more complex names.

Nakai earned a cooler name.

Assuming I ever get to painting more models, I have a vague plan to (eventually) differentiate my kroxigors and this may carry over to my fluff.

In my fluff (and models) there are three castes of Skinks. Worker caste skinks, warrior skinks (also called Sotek caste skinks), and beast caste skinks.

My cohort Skinks are blue scaled with tan crests. My skink skirmishers are light green with bright red crests. My Salamander handlers are dark green scaled with dark red crests. So are are my Steggy crews and Terradon riders.

All my painted kroxigor are painted with a very similar color scheme to my worker skinks.

In official GW fluff. Kroxigor are usually spawned simultaneously with skinks who are their brothers.

In my unofficial fluff. A vast majority of kroxigor are spawned simultaneously with worker caste skinks. In rare instances, kroxigor are spawned among warrior Skinks and in very rare instances, kroxigor are spawned among beast caste skinks.

Obviously warrior kroxigor are more aggressive than ordinary kroxigor. To the point where they are rarely asked to aid with peace time work projects.

Beast caste kroxigor have great hunting instincts are in fact much more intelligent than average kroxigor. In my fluff, Nakai is a beast caste kroxigor.

Beast caste kroxigor have great hunting instincts are in fact much more intelligent than average kroxigor. In my fluff, Nakai is a beast caste kroxigor.

Are beast caste those that work with the beasts or more beastly and fierce?

You have certainly taken a different approach than me with your kroxigors. I went with age, kroxigors are the only Lizardman subtype where their age gates them from certain duties/responsibilities. Because when they're freshly spawned they have low attention spans and less than perfect control over their own strength. They can do heavy lifting for the artisans - under supervision - or they can fight. Get older and their attention spans mature and they learn better control, they can be given more complex tasks, etc.

So, the oldest kroxigor of my fluff is old enough that he is able to be a very good healer with a focus in mind healing - yes, I have a psychologist kroxigor. He is also noted as being especially gentle when interacting with others, something younger kroxigor struggle with while they are young.

It's also not come up yet in my fluff, but kroxigors younger than 50 years have squeaky voices, which is why they don't like talking. Look at vids with baby crocodiles to understand. And after watching such a vid, picture Nakai as a young kroxigor trying to shout Bok with that voice.

I like that idea. I look forward to seeing your models when you paint them, that scheme will look really nice on the battlefield.
