- I can't decide which Disciplines my Slann should take, I will be playing either skaven, wood elves, or Dwarves. We play in teams of two so i will be playing either with or against these combinations.

It is casual so they won't mind me going 3pt over, I do however think that i need another block of saurus warriors. Open to Criticism. Also sorry if i broke any of the forums rules first post so I am not to sure. Thanks.

having half of your points in 3 models is pretty risky, especially considering that the TG unit is fairly low compared to what most people will normally take to protect him. i would possibly think of dropping either the skink priest or scarvet to free up some points and put those towards either another unit of saurus or more TG to protect the slann. definitly break the unit of 20 skinks into 2 units of 10, giving you the ability to target 2 different units or just keep 1 unit of 10 and get some camo skinks to WM hunt(useful vs dwarves).

Ex: if you drop the scarvet, 10 skinks, and tool down the S Priest some you may have enough room left for 2 units of 20 saurus.

thats all i can think of right now, its late(2am new years eve) so take it all with a grain of salt(is that the right sayin). do you know the other guys lists?


p.s. we typically only post totals for the catergories(lord/hero, core, etc)

Yeah, thats what I thought too, I just basically made a list with what I had to see if it would fly lol. It does however seem that I will have to buy another block of Saurus Warriors. I don't mind taking out the Scarvet didnt like him too much anyway. Should I go with the level 1 skink priest though? I have heard that a level 2 is kinda useless because of the Slann taking up most of your dice pool. I thought that maybe if I took The Focus of Rumination that he would leave some for the skink priest, but if not oh well. I am also struggling with magical items with the skink priest. It kinda seems like a waste not to use up the 50pt worth of possible magic items though, so I don't know. Also regarding the Full Commands, it seems like a bit of a waste of points for just one extra attack, so couldn't I trim some points that way? or am I missing something?

Also, I do know most of what the Dwarf player has, and a couple items that the skaven player has bought. As for the wood elf I haven't a clue.

So yes, If I do end up playing against him I probably should get some chameleon skinks, or mod some normal ones . Also, I am not sure if I stated this earliar but we play in teams of two. Therefore I may be able to rely on my partners a bit for things like taking out WMs if I can't fit them into my list.

Skaven

- Doom wheel
- a lot of clanrats

and I don't know anymore. I am assuming he is going to have some type of magic but I don't know anything more about skaven than whats listed in the bestiary.

Wood Elves

- Treekin (brother told me lol)
- Dryads
- Glade Guards
- Glade Riders
- War Dancers

He has more but I wasn't able to figure them out with my brother. I am assuming I am going to have revert to the lore of fire for the Slann, unless my sallies can do enough damage?

Alright sorry for the wall of text... Just thought I would get all the information out there so yall know what I am up against. And yeah, I really wanna win cause these guys kick my ass at 40k all the time

your slann should dominate your magic phase and you could use the skink priest for los if i remember correctly, most people take lore of life or light(i dont play with slanns though), so probably leaving the skink priest at lvl 1 is a good idea to shave some points.

you could drop the champion out of all the units to save points, and i would definitly consider at least 1 unit of 5 chamo skinks, the only other army that would good WM hunters would be the skaven gutter and night runners. then again ive never played WE before.

tool around with the list some and let us know what youve come up with.

Hmm, you can only have one dispell scroll per army nowadays. Cube of darkness is a nice "dispell scroll" you can use instead of the second one you have listed. As for the slann, rumination is the most important discipline imo. As someone posted 10 tgs are a bit to few to protect your fat toad, i'd recommend 20 or let him walk alone with ethereal. With 20 tgs you can make him a more offensive force to be reconned with. Sure its expensive but...

I just made a 1500pt list as well for tomorrows game, quite similar but more deathstar-ish . 20 tgs, 24 saurus, 10 skink skirmishers, slann with standard of discipline, becalming and rumination, 2 salamanders and a normal stegadon. That list is not very good if you're gonna face heavy machinery though.

Okay, what about this list? I took out the full commands, down graded the skink priest to a lvl 1 mage, and took out the scarvet. In return I beefed up my infantry by adding 20 more saurus warriors, and 5 more temple guards. I think that I should maybe go back to 10 TG with the standard bearer, musician and the sun standard of chotec, and take out the musicians and SBs from the saurus regiments, and that I think would free up enough points to add 5 or so chameleon skinks. What do you think though?

looks alot better, keep the mus and sb on the 2 units of 20 saurus, they should do pretty well. those 5x4 blocks should tear through skaven no problem, especially if you can trim down the clanrats units(thats only if your playing skaven of course but it can work against either opponent) with your salamanders.

try to keep the TG unit that size if you can(wether you feel better having the FC and banner or 5 extra models is your choice and is an opportunity to play which works better for you).

as for camo skinks, you could drop a unit of 10 skink skirmishers and the 2 extra handlers for the sallies and it should give you enough points(maybe, dont have the army book on me for exact pts costs)

but looks good, definitly more of an all comers list.

Okay thnks for your help guys, I only have a few more questions lol.

1. Do you think it would be a good idea to drop focus of mystery off the slaan and get Unfathomable presence instead? The (3) magic resistance gives the unit a 4+ ward save on top of their 4+ armor save does it not? If I am wrong please correct me. Also there are really only 4 or five spells in the Life lore worth having anyway and this would make the TG unit really unstoppable no?

2. (probably should be asking this somewhere else but I dont see the need to start up a new thread to ask). What exactly did they change in 8ed that made sallies so good?
