The source I got it from didn't have a lot of instructions. The way I deduce it is as follows:

1. create a custom template as shown in the foreground. Something that won't burn away easily when touched by the hotwire cutter.
2. use the template to cut the grooves into a thick piece of polystyrene foam board
3. cut the thick polystyrene foam board into thin slices
4. texture the newly cut thin slices
5. offset and overlap the thin slices to make your roof
