7th Ed. marchblock what 'n how?

Sup peeps!

velcroface here, new to Lustria and kind of new to warhammer with a few questions.

What are the best targets to marchblock? Enemy hammers, anvils, support, or just anything?

What are the best parts of the army to marchblock?( like the center or flanks)

I still don't have very many games under my belt and zero players where I live to play with (that I know of anyway) so I haven't ever seen how marchblocking is done. I do get the concept fine of course. I'm all for killing half the enemy army then the other half.

I like the Slann/TG center for my army with a bit of everything else. With that in mind some help on this would be awesome.

Hello Velcroface an welcome to the forums ! There is an introduction thread on the forum if you feel like telling us a little about yourself. If you don't know a lot of players where you live I strongly recommend looking around for a local club, unless if you live in a very small town i dought there isnt at least one gaming club where you live already. Ask around and Im sure you will find some ! Tournaments is another good way of meeting some new people to play with.

"Killing half the enemy army then the other half" tactic only works if your opponent move forward with everything at max speed despite parts of his army is marsh blocked. A smart opponent won't go full speed with his units if you march block his support. This can be used against your enemys easily. If you march block their support units they either slow down to march blocked pace which means 1-2 of your units can march block his entire army, or he runs away from his support and his army gets seperated (in which case you can kill his unsupported units easily, then go for the support units that lagged behind).

I usually march block the things I consider to be a threat, which is usually support units on the flank. Lizardmen has no long rage shooting so there isnt really any point in prolonging contact with the enemy in the same way a shooty wood elf or dark elf army would, but preventing certain units from entering combats early can be a good idea. It can also be effective to isolate his support on a flank with harassers and march blockers while your fast heavy hitters takes care of his main army.

Dont decide where your march blockers should go before the battle. A basic battle plan is pretty essential to get consistently good results, but keep if flexible, don't go into a game with the mind set "im gonna jam my terradons down the center!" before even deploying. You should also limit your march blocking to where you can get away without being shot to bits. There is no point in placing your terradons within 8" of a unit that you really want to march block if you just get shot to bits and give up 90 Victory pts.
