I might be misunderstanding what you mean, but I believe we have what you talk about now. If you look at the top right corner (basically to the right of the tags in a post, and the pagination on a forum) you have the ability to chose to Watch or Unwatch. At this place, you also have the choice to decide what happens in the event you watch it, i.e. how to see the notices.
No, what i mean is that when i click on New Posts, I dont want to keep watching updates on the typical cat vs dog, or just for fun typical posts, or such. A do not show in the new posts feed. The opposite of watch, like unwatch.
I am sorry I am not following, you will need to explain with a little more detail. It would be helpful if you could put it into steps, and explain what you expect to happen on each of them.
There is a mark forum as read option at the start of the line the "new posts" option is on, but I assume this is not what you mean.
There are certain posts that always get new content, and are clearly off topic. I would like those post to never show in the new posts feed.
Like a mark as read forever, or silence the topic/category
