I played a 3000 pt list last night and was not ready for most of the problems i faced. Grant it, he had made the list to go against a cheezy dark elf list so i felt a little overwhelmed. He had 20 casting dice. I forgot that i couldn't make them run and so put myself in some bad spots but still, how best do we deal with vc? especially all the magic. bother trying to contest it with magic of my own or give up on magic, just a scroll cady or two and go for a non-magic list? he had 1 ghoul unit, 3 skelly units, a hounds unit, a corpse art, a unit of their cavelry, with 2 chars in it and one of the 40mm beast things i forget what they're called.

Don't bother asking what my list was, it was thrown together without a whole lot of thought, particularly not for a complete magic hose. what's our best strategies against vc?

Realities, the plural. As in, the blade exists in this realm and the spirit realm, which is why it can rip the enemy's soul from its body.

DOH, of course. any general army tactics? or just i need to use that weapon against them? Woulr BoR work well against a vamp lord?

2 Slanns with each a TG unit.. 2 EoTG..
CoR, Some Saurus to back up..

With this u have 2 L4 casters and 2 L3 casters..

= 2 + 4+ 4+3+3 +(5 freedice) 21 PD....

2+2+2+2+2 = 10 DD... + Dispell scrolls..

Think it would be magic heavy enough to take them on ?
Burning Alignment 2x will hurt his units too... Be sure to pick light to make you saurus blocks ItP too.
And offcourse Cleansing Flare.

Its one way to deal with them...

A lot will depend on whether you want a more combat focused or magic heavy... the strategies will change depending on what you want to field.

I don't have a second set of slann/TG what's a more fighting heavy style that can deal with VC, or a high magic user in general?

I wouldn't go full Combat vs VC...

To be honest.. Their vampire lords are just downright awfull they could easily beat our saurus.
They have too many good combat builds. And if you have no way to shut their magic down..

Every time you destroy some ranks.. next magic fase and they are back.. untill they win combat once, outnumber and autobreak you. As without a slann you can maximum have only 1 block unit which is imune to fear by having the totem of prophecy... This vs an entire fear causing army would be a pain.
Stega's and Carnosaurs are imune to fear offcourse, they cause terror.. but they don't stack combat resolution that we so dearly need vs Vampire Counts.

And with the lack of magic you would have trouble killing their many ethereal units.

Don't think Stegadons would do anything. The impact hits maybe kills 4 of 20 guys killing maybe 2 more in combat. He removes 3 by combat resolution and in all upcoming combat rounds he probably will win untill his vampire or other hero or banshee comes and kills the stegadon which is stuck in combat with a unit it can never kill. I've even had a guy who screamed my EoTG to death.... double sixes on his banshee roll...

I've learnt this the hard ways... In my area their area around 3 vampire players and I played all kinds of vampire lists... From my experience.. Magic is best way to beat them.
