Last person to make a post wins

Now if only the posts fawning over Lionel Messi could cease then order and freedom would truly be restored to this thread.

That's a shame, I thought it was hilarious when Saudi Arabia beat the Argies. Pity Poland couldn't repeat the trick.

That particular quote of mine still stands... Argentina may have eventually won the World Cup, but they still lost to Saudi Arabia in the process of getting there, not to mention scraping Pyrrhic victories against many of their other opponents. Your magic Messi can gain all those titles but still lose a match to the Saudis, relative amateurs at the game, and only got his World Cup win on penalties. Hardly the stuff of legend. Your idolisation of him is very much making a mountain out of a molehill. Perhaps the biggest molehill around, but still a molehill that's overstayed its welcome as @Imrahil's Pokemon did.

Not to mention that I find it funny that you, supposedly a Star God, bows and scrapes to a mere human footballer who will probably be eclipsed in a decade or so by those who aim to supersede him. I thought you did not serve?

I fawn to no-one.

I'd rather lose the opening game of the World Cup and go on to win the tournament than burn out like England did (admittedly with some high quality potent hexing working against them).

The notion of a pyrrhic victory in Argentina's win is nonsensical. They literally won it all. What great cost did they incur?

I'm starting to understand why you weren't very good at football in school.

Hardly the stuff of legend.
Actually that final game was legendary. Likely the greatest WC finals yet seen. History will remember it as a legendary game for many decades to come.

Not to mention that I find it funny that you, supposedly a Star God, bows and scrapes to a mere human footballer who will probably be eclipsed in half a century by those who aim to supersede him.

I appreciate greatness. I appreciate the genius of his artistic play. In the history of the beautiful game, no one has ever played it more beautifully.

I've been the first one to admit that someone will eventually eclipse him. That is the nature of sports. The players, coaches and the game all evolve. I look forward to seeing that evolution take shape. I hope we do see someone with even more grace and skill.

Greatness recognizes greatness.

I agree with @NIGHTBRINGER on this particular stance... I'd say is more true that Saudi Arabia and the players will remember their victory as epic, as they managed to win against all odds, inflicting the only loss to the incoming world champions and to the strongest player in the world (regardless any considerations about GOAT, Messi is currently the best one hands down).
That's something to be proud of. While for Argentina it was merely an inconvenience.
