I would say so, but opinions will vary. The SJWs love her though because of her politics.

In my opinion Captain Marvel is the worst of the MCU movies. It has a few sparse good moments sprinkled in here or there, but pretty boring overall.

There were actually many male Captain Marvels before the current female iteration (who was originally Ms. Marvel).

And as to why, its easier and lazier to do a gender swap than to come up with new and original ideas.
