I remember a 1990s comic where there was this magic bad guy that could create simulacrums of peoples ambition and make them fight them. These simulacrums beat up a bunch of teenaged superheroes easily since they all dreamed of being stronger.

Blue Beetle biggest dream was for his secret identity so he fought his 35 year old self, a dentist.

"They make good money and have flexible hours."

This broke the villain that destroyed her enemies with their own ambitions and desires.
