I thought the first was convincing pagans that the Son of God was born during the Winter Solstice and was resurrected during the Spring Equinox. And then Coca-Cola and Cadbury got involved with the marketing.
Cannot blame modern marketing on that one. The early Catholic Church used Christmas to overwrite and counteract Saturnalia which still lingered in various forms well after people stopped worshiping the Roman pantheon because Saturnalia was a cesspool of debauchery.
One part I liked is Trick or Treating on Steroids. Crowds would go around wealthy neighborhoods with torches basically demanding "Give us food and booze or we'll set your house on fire!"
Now it's we won't leave until we get some figgy pudding.
