For me it was the other way round.
It seems I am more used to people writing the A that way because I needed a moment to get the joke.
Cursive can be a headache when certain conventions aren't followed, mind you. It irks me that the cursive shown here doesn't close the loop on the A, for instance.
 
It is a bit like with numbers, Americans find it weird to write the 7 with the crossbar, while Germans constantly mix it up with a 1 if they write it without.

And some cursive systems even have the lower case 'z 'with the loop like a 'y', 'g', or 'j' can have it.
