Just for laughs...

To move away from disease and to horses. Why is the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria. Why is one of the most famous landmarks in Rome, Italy the Spanish Steps.

Would you actually like to know, or do you already know and are waiting for someone else to ask?

Quick answer for the Riding School: Once upon a time, Spain was part of the Habsburg Empire, which included Austria, most of Hungary, much of current-day Germany, the Netherlands... big long list. Oh, and big chunks of Italy. Anyway, the "Spanish" riding school was likely founded by one of the Habsburg Emperors from the Spanish line, or from the Austrian line of same, with imported Spanish instructors and horses.

As for the Spanish Steps, again, Spain controlled a lot of territory, even before the Habsburgs. Did you know that Sicily was part of the Spanish dominion for a LONG time? Heck, Spanish soldiers SACKED Rome at least once. Point being, Spain got around.
