We have a rule in our house, it is called the two-paws-rule.
It says that it is ok for the cat to be on the table with two of her paws.
It stems from a time when the cat was about 25cm tall standing on a chair with her hind legs and could barely set her two paws onto the table. She couldn't reach anything and it looked cute.
...fast forward to now, the cat being 80cm tall or so. She is still on her two legs on the chair (or on a human) but can reach half of the table because long cat is long.
...she also knows the rule is only enforced when no humans are near. I can tell by the paw-prints on the table.
Of course she denies havig been involved at all.
...also she did discover we never said *which* two paws, which leads to funny combinations of the cat being practically on the table, with her two right paws, and the other two on some chair or human or any object that is reasonably close.

...in fact I wouldn't even be surprised if she suddenly walked upright (two paws on the table, no problem I guess?!?)

I have that rule for dogs though. For the jack russel it works fine for the Bernese who can rest his head on the table it's not quite as effective
