Overall, looking at the grand scheme of things, life gets better. There might be "small" dips here and there, like the pandemic years of 2020/21 being worse than 2019, but even they were still a hell of a lot better than suffering through the black plague. Life today (for the humans on a species-wide level) is far better today than it was 1000 years ago and life 1000 years ago was better than it was10,000 years ago.

Of course, you are correct that we could wipe ourselves out with a WWIII, but if past is prologue, I think things will continue to improve.
