Hey guys, I was looking at our army book, and I wondered; can you put a hero on a mount in a unit? I think the answer is yes. If so, can you put a stegadon in a unit?

Imagine the carnage, with two stegadons and a slann inside a temple guard unit..

Well you could in 7th... Unfortunately in 8th Monsters can no longer join units.
(Slann is not a monster anymore)

But Calvary can join units...

There is an exception to the monster in unit thing: Transformation of Kadon Lore of Beasts). If a wizard is already in a unit and casts Transformation, then they're allowed to remain in the unit. Too bad the Slaan isn't allowed to cast it...

Because the FAQ said he can't...

I didn't know monster mounts were no longer allowed to join units.. It was never actually that much of a benefit, but still a bit of a pain.

In 7th I used to run a EotG and carnosaur in a skrox unit. It gave me impact hits, ranks, a standard and a throwaway champ to avoid challenges, just didn't have many points for the rest of the army...

WHAT? why the hell not?
Haha. that was my reaction when I first learned that, but, as Strewart said, it's been FAQed (for some time now). The only reason I can fathom is that it breaks the fluff because the Slaan now hovers on a floating plannquin. Or maybe it has something to do with Temple Guard, but I still don't see much logic in the decision.

...especially considering what Storm of Magic does to fluff.

IIRC Transformation of Kadon is for wizards on foot, not infantry, on foot. Slann is infantry but mounted on palanquin thus not on foot.

The same reason they forbid the flying carpet too.

absolutely true, but, fluff-wise, it still doesn't make any sense to me.

Slann are sleeping... they can't be bothered to get off their floaty chair and start stomping around like a Thunder Lizard.

Although in Storm of Magic, you can take a Truthsayer and they can always have Transformation of Kadon. Always.

And if you pick the other lore they can have and swap one of them for transformation they can have access to two lores of cataclysm spells.

And since the LM 35+ killy spell is High magic, the +3 for ascendant winds of magic is available 50% of the time and the slann seems to have access to high magic's as well as its chosen lore's cataclysm spells.

I expect to see this FAQed out of existence soon.

They aren't sleeping even in their chambers, they are concentrating on things more important to them than the present state of their bodies.

If you can find their stats from 5th edition you can see what they are like when they are really paying attention to a battle.
