Hi all,

Just finishing my lizardmen list for a friendly tournament and i have decided to run a lone slann for a bit of a change to the tg bunker (i play for fun more than winning). Now obviously my lone slann is a little vulnerable to chariots or flyers coming around my flank and getting to him so i was thinking could he take the "Charm of the jaguar warrior" gives him bound spell steed of shadows so if anything gets near him i could fly him out of the way. The item description says models on foot only but as far as i know the slann is classed as an infantry model so i would think he can take it but just want clarification from you more experienced players. So first of all is it legal and secondly do you guys think its a decent tactic?

Yea, I think you can use that on him. You should also make him etheral and give him the crown of command as well as BSB (with banner of discipline). That way he becomes almost unbreakable (ld 10 stubborn reroll). His base movement is 10 anyway (due to the float rule he can move 10 inches but not march).
 
i thought if you took a magic banner you could have no other magic items??

Theres somthing that makes you able to with a slann im not sure but apparently its legal.
 
found it in rulebook thanks that helps a lot.
 
just one other thing, i am brushing up on the rules before the tournament and noticed a salamander is a warbeast, does this mean salamander & crew have swiftstrider as the rulebook says warbeasts have it??

Sadly no as the whole unit must have it and the skinks don't, if they die tho the sallie gets to use it.
 
I'm not sure that the salamander unit doesn't get swift-stride unless all the skinks die, that kind or weird. Sort of like they fear fire but are immune to fear. Strange. Pretty much defeats the purpose of giving them the warbeast rule. If this is true, then don't you think that they would erase the warbeast rule entirely. Just my opinion.

Where did you find that the movement of the slann is 10. I've seen the "can't use the carpet rule" and that he is not considered "on foot" but I haven't seen the word float in any errata. But I might not be up to date. If I'm wrong, thats awesome. If I gave him the +1 movement banner could he move 11 inches. Just a thought. But I've never heard of the float rule on the frog. I'm crossing my fingers for you though.
 
From the Lizardmen FAQ: Page 43 – Slann Mage-Priests, Guardians
Change “Because of this, his line of sight is worked out as if
the Mage-Priest himself were a large target” to “Because of
this, assume the Mage-Priest is floating just above the heads of
the models in his unit when working out his line of sight.”

I miss named it, but that is it. Also, and more to the point, on page 3 of the big rule book at the top it states that all characteristics cannot go below 0 or above 10. Giving the banner +1 movement is not legal becuase you cannot go above the 10 movement.

It doesn't give him the special rule "Hover", it's just describing how to draw his LOS.
 
I'm mistaken, :depressed: I just looked for it. I cannot find it, but I thought I remember seeing it in the big rule book. Sorry guys!
 
yeah slan moves 4 :) i would say that salys get the swistride because all warbeast has handlers (i gues have to check) and it would be dum to give that rule for something that cant use it. BTW is all pack named warbeast that is salys and skinks or only sallys?
 
Slann cant use CoJW, since he isnt considered as " Model on foot" (check out Lizzie FAQ)

Actally the sallie is the only warbeast with handlers (other than the razordon) most of the othetrs run solo (like chaos warhounds) or in a mixed unit (like giant rats) or are used as mounts for cavlry (like horses).
Either way any unit not compleetly made of models with swiftstride dosen't benefit from it (as explained on page 76 of the big red brick).
 
ok i agree slann cant have the charm of the jaguar so my new plan is to give it my skink priest and have him cast the steed of shadows either on the slann or on himself and then use the shadow extra ability to swap places with the slann leaving my skink where the slann was. Would you guys think a bound item casting a lore spell would also grant you the extra abilities that deck gives?

Yes at least that's the logic behind people taking fire mages and having a character with the fireball ring cast 1st, to get him some extra power on something he casts after.
That being said if the slaan is in a TG unit you cannot smoke and mirror him out as the rules clearly state he may not leave for any reason, so thinking up an alternate bunker, ot having him ethereal and solo, would be necesarry for the trick you suggested to work.
 
yes he runs solo all the time anyway, never taken ethereal yet though, i tend to just give him,BSB rumination, mastery,becalming and thats it and then i just keep him out of harms way when possible. Might have to consider etheral might be a nice bit of defence for him
