Contest July-August 2022 Short Story Contest Entry Thread

Most short story content entries show up at the last minute.

I didn't do the math, I'm ballparking with my memory with facilitating a gazillion contests, but every contest is different.

Week 1: 10% of entries
Week 2: 10% of entries
Week 3: 20% of entries
Week 4: 50% of entries
Overtime: 10% of entries

Poetry Contests tend to be frontloaded with about half of entries arriving in the first week, almost nothing in the middle and the rest at the end.

Certain writers are early birds and certain writers are habitually last minute writers. Most of our early birds have been absent for the last year.

Ironically, the writers we have young enough to still be in high school and university are less likely to write short stories in the summer than the school year. I guess L-O can be a de-stresser for school work.

Overall, our biggest contests in terms of entrants tend to be October-November or January-February.

In my defence, i've as always been extremely busy with what little time I have being devoted to painting, family, and rpgs. Regardless, I have the kernel of an idea and know how I would write it, it's just a matter of free time and willpower to put key button press to virtual paper.

I will get something written even if it is on the line and splinters my sanity further. So fret not scale-things, there will at least be three entries. :P

This is great news. One of the heavy-hitters weighing in.

Due to scheduling issues and spotty internet on my end, I've extended the deadline of both contests to August 3rd. And I won't be able to do much editing.

Well I have finally started to pit some words together in sentences that one might construed as the start of a story :P

I will have to push it for the deadline, wish me luck

Grrr, Imrahil

isn't the deadline like... today? :p

Technically the deadline is 15 hours from now.

That said, the deadline is a guideline not a hard line. If someone, perhaps even Scalenex, especially Scalenex, needs a bit more time to finish a story, I will grant said time.

That said I have writer's block myself.

Here's the running update.

I'd be delighted to push this to 5 or 6.
