Contest July-August 2020 Short Story Contest (entries closed)

Ugh, I'm a third of the way through my story outline and I'm over 1500 words. This is going to be a challenge for me to condense my story under 2400 words. I also hoped to have my rough draft done before my camping trip but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Funnily enough, the length of my story this time looks like it’s going to be a good deal less than 2400 words, so it’ll be nice to write a really short story for a change... *proceeds to write another 2400-word mammoth piece*

I hear you. I finished my story and then had to hack 1000 words off of it... very painful.

Hah...i'm struggling to make 500...

It's ironic that someone from a race that writes-uses redundant word-things be such a concise writer.

On a purely technical level, you are probably the most efficient writer that regularly enters our contests. Me, I tend to ramble on, not that I'm the only one. My plan is to write two stories, the long version (which I will post after the contest) and a severely trimmed down version for this contest (which probably will not win many votes). All hail the director's cut!

Pretty cool to see people starting their stories relatively early compared to past contests where usually, most start and finish their work near the deadline, myself included. Just begun writing my piece.

If it makes you feel any better, the plurality, if not the majority, are relying on last minute pieces.

To quote the Tailor of Gloucester: “Alack, I am undone.”

Due to current family issues that are requiring I dedicate a lot of my time, it is with the deepest regret that I think I’m going to have to bow out of the contest this time. A pity as I did have a solid idea about what I wanted to write about (unlike the previous time I bowed out when I really couldn’t even think of any good storyline), but with only four days to finish my story, only a small percentage of each day’s time I can dedicate to short story writing, my mind focused more on writing lore and rules for an Albion project and still a lot of nitty-gritty parts I have to think of the right wording for, it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to finish it in time.

Sorry about this lads, but can’t be helped.

This is grave tidings...

Surely your entry will be missed, but no neat to beat yourself up over it. Hopefully we sometime can read the story you thought of somewhere else on the forum ;)

Today I took a chunk out of the bosses' time to make the necessary changes to my short story... Hope to get it all fixed in time :angelic:

Grrr, Imrahil

Very kindly words, thank you good sir.
I haven't written any stories more than 500 words for about a year now. My muse abandoned me and left me the bill and i've been struggling to write anything since.

We'll see how this one goes. I will probably be up to the line but I am almost there...
