Contest July-August 2020 Short Story Contest (entries closed)

It's not so much that I'm working on a piece and more that I'm waiting for the terrifying rakshasa that visits me in my sanctum every three months clutching tablets drenched in blood, the runes of which blaze like fire in my mind causing me to experience spine-cracking seizures until they are transcribed onto the internet and submitted to Scalenex.

Excellent. Always good to maintain routines even in quarantine.

:D

I was concerned that running two concurrent contests would dilute the entries for both but that is not happening.

I am going camping on the 23rd through 26th and I'm planning to unplug completely. The contest deadline is still the 31st. But this does mean it's unlikely that posts I get after the 23rd will be able to get a thorough editing and critique by me.

You are allowed and encouraged to turn to others for help but if you do help someone, don't spill the beans on the author identities when the contest is underway.

If I can see my inbox full of stories and poems when I get back that will put a big ol' smile on my face.

I got three entries and a promised WIP so far which is pretty good considering usually at least half of the entries come in on the last week.

This turn i definitely won't be able to write anything

The positive side is that i will look at the stories with my full attention.

Nice. Enjoy your camping!

I just gave up, and suddenly now I have an idea. And this week i am on vacation, with just my telephone. :banghead:

Paper and pencil ftw...

No school like the old school.

On my camping trip, I will probably be plenty busy with rowdy cousins, fishing, and napping, but if I need something to do, I am going to try to sketch some fantasy maps. Then I can present my crude maps to @Warden or @pendrake and they can make a better version of them.

You correctly perceived what I was thinking.

I will feel directly responsible if there are a lessened amount of votes for the contest, as @thedarkfourth basically gave me the right to choose the subject.

I figured with how you've been promoting this so vigorously that you were concerned the theme was involved.

Yes. And this is on top of my normal desire to encourage people on their writing and creation. (Which everyone experienced the last competition.)

So I'm really trying not to go overboard on it. Restricting myself to one message being displayed on the status alerts screen at one time, etc.
