I am joining an Arena of Death with multiple weights. We are allowed to enter one entry per weight with the following rules:
I was thinking about going about it like this:
Light: Scar-vet w/Hide of the Cold Ones, Great Weapon, Shield
Medium: Scar-Oldblood w/Shield, Light armor, Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent, Bane Head, Glyph Necklace, Mounted on a Cold-One
Heavy: Scar-Oldblood w/Shield, Light armor, Blade of Revered Tzunki, Glyph Necklace, Mounted on a Carnosaur
Unit: 22xTemple guard(includes banner carrier and revered guard with the Burning Blade of Chotec)(5x4 formation with 2 leftover in the 5th row),
Tactics:
With the lightweight, I'm hoping my scar-vet will be protected by T6 and able to cause some real hurt with the GW.
Midweight: Try to drown my opponent with doubling up wounds and has a high armor save.
Heavyweight: I figured that heavy weight would be a good time to start ignoring armor saves and the increased strength helps too. Carnosaur will hopefully get some bites in
.
Unit: Temple Guard seem to be excellent all rounders. The Burning blade on the Revered Guard is sort of a precaution against ethereal units and good against 'weak vs fire' units.
Any comments and suggestions would be helpful. I'm thinking about changing my midweight to a Blade of Realities+enchanted shield combo. Do you think that would work better?
General rules (these apply to all weights)
1. All entries must be from the current army book.
2. Must follow normal rules when it comes to magic items, weapons and armour e.g. no giving non wizards arcane items.
3. No special characters.
4. Wizard spells are rolled for at the start of the arena and those spells stick with them for the entire arena.
The rules for lightweight are:
The maximum cost of the entry is 150pts
Non-wizard Heroes only.
Mounts may have a maximum of 1 wound.
The rules for middleweight are:
The maximum cost of the entry is 300pts
Any hero is allowed and non-wizard lords are allowed.
Mounts may have a maximum of 3 wounds.
The rules for heavyweight are:
The maximum cost of the entry is 500pts
Any Lord or Hero is allowed.
Any mount is allowed.
The new weight is the unitweight which has the following rules
The maximum cost of the entry is 400pts
It can be any core, special or rare choice
How the arena works.
The battles take place like this-
Each round your character is randomly paired up with another members character and when your time comes you will fight to the death.
There is no movement phase in the arena.
If any of the characters have magic then the magic phase begins. Both combatants will generate 2 dispel dice and 2 power dice (unless it’s the lightweight when its 1 dispel dice and no power dice) plus any additional for wizard level, items etc. If both survive the magic phase or there is no magic then we go onto shooting however if one character dies the other wins but if both die then the phase is redone.
Like magic if either character has a ranged weapon they get to use it here and of course if both survive or neither have a ranged weapon onto the combat phase, if one dies the other wins and if they both die the phase is redone.
Then combat now for the first round both models will count as charging but the model with the highest movement will strike first (baring magic items or other rules of course) and if they both have the same movement then it goes to initiative and if that fails the mighty D6 will decide. After the first round both fill fight as normal.
Note there is an exception to the charging rule which is say you cast something like Mankaras Incantation or Vanhels danse macabre in the magic phase then only the caster will count as charging due to using the extra boost of speed to get an advantage plus the shooting phase will be skipped.
If both are alive by the end of the combat then we go back to the magic phase and keep going until one you is no longer breathing.
For the unitweight for every point you lose a round of combat by you will suffer additional wounds though armour and ward saves are allowed against these.
