Hi guys,

there was a rule which said a "1" is a fail, right?

so two examples:

A Carnosaurus hit with his claws, so he get +2 to hit with his bite, which is a +1 to hit at the end.
Does he hit automaticly?or is a "1" still a miss?

Saurus guards have with an warden and battalion a +2 to save. in cover they have +1.
Is this an autosave for them or is a "1" still a fail?

Depending on the roll itself but yes a Hit/Wound or Save Roll is always a fail

No, he doesn't hit automatically, a hit roll of 1 _before modifiers_ is still a fail.
In the same way, a hit roll of 6 _before modifiers_ is always a success.

Mentioning the modifiers is an important thing, because it plays an important role in some situations.
You might think a +2 on hit doesn't make a lot of sense, but it changes a few subtle things.

The sequence is:
1. You roll a dice. If it shows a 1, then you missed, regardless of buffs and debuffs.
2. If you have rerolls (from an Astrolith Bearer for example) then you can now reroll. Otherwise: End of the attack.
3. If you rolled a 2 or higher, you add 2 to the result. If your opponent debuffed your hit rolls in some way, you substract that.
4. If the final result after modifiers is equal or higher than a 3, you can now move on to your wound roll.

So as you see the 2+ makes sense because even if your opponent debuffs your Carno, when he hit with both claws then his jaw attack will still hit on a 2+.

Here is a example for the auto-hitting 6, btw:
You play some Skinks with Javelins, and get into melee. Those guys have a 6+ to hit.
You attack an enemy hero bearing a Miasmic Blade, which gives you -1 to hit. Now, that would mean that you have to hit on a 7+, which can never happen without modifiers. But unmodified rolls of 6 will still hit.

Same as above, a 1 before modifiers is still a fail. But the +1 from cover can still be useful, for example when your enemy debuffed your save in some way, or has a rend of -2 or better.

thx for the explenation, really helps a lot

To be honest this is one of the weirdest and most confusing aspects about this game. It's impossible to prevent your opponent from hitting cuz a natural 6 will Always hit, but you can completly negate that special "on a 6+ do stuff"- ability. It's rather weird,.

Totally makes sense to me @Canas, gives debuffs the important impact they should have imo !

It's inconsistent though, which is what makes it weird. Though I guess the issue is that without natural 6's and 1's automaticly failing/hitting it'd be too easy to completly defang certain weak units as 1 (de)buff could make em always fail/succeed

if the 1´s wouldn´t be an automaticly fail, then Saurus guards in a battalion are nearly indistructible in cover.
a carnosaurus would bite everything to death when he gets his claws on somebody

Yeah there would be quite some units that have stats like a 6+ hit so they could easily debuffed to hit nothing at all, and on the other side there would be several who could always hit.
